Weird way for Bessent to tell us he favors full restoration of the Voting Rights Act, but I'll take it.

The reason 300,000 Mississippians do not have health care through Medicaid expansion today is because the Supreme Court interfered with a president's signature policy.

I feel like this point is weirdly under-discussed in the discourse! Acosta himself approved Epstein's notorious sweetheart non-prosecution agreement. By elevating Acosta to the cabinet later, Trump seemed to ... pretty clearly reward that?
trump made the prosecutor who gave epstein a pass the secretary of labor!

WASHINGTON NEEDS A SHAKE-UP

The same career politicians who caused the shutdown are now playing games with your health care. Eight Senate Democrats just cut a deal—but Speaker Johnson still refuses to hold a vote to protect ACA subsidies. Tennessee can change that on Dec. 2.

Trump to air traffic controllers: "For those that did nothing but complain, and took time off, even though everyone knew they would be paid, IN FULL, shortly into the future, I am NOT HAPPY WITH YOU. You didn’t step up to help the U.S.A. against the FAKE DEMOCRAT ATTACK"

what a bogus statement. “democratic leadership,” ie Schumer, either has no control over his caucus and as such was powerless to prevent the most embarrassing political own goal in history or he privately supports this deal and is completely fine with how this is playing out
Even Democratic Party chair Ken Martin is trashing this vote:

“As this vote moves to the House, I stand with Democratic leadership as they refuse to rubber stamp the full-scale Republican assault on Americans’ health care and I am proud of the majority of Senate Democrats who opposed this vote."

Some Dems fuming about this deal.

Sen. Tammy Duckworth:

“I simply cannot, and I will not, vote to do nothing to help protect [ppl who rely on ACA] from Trump’s vindictive and malicious efforts in exchange for a vague promise from the least trustworthy Republican party in our nation’s history."

i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

I truly don’t know how you look at the past week and THEN decide THIS is an appropriate — let alone the right — response.
Dems backed Trump into a corner where he’s advocating for starving Americans and hemorrhaging support. If they vote to let him off the hook in exchange for nothing it’s a cataclysmic failure. I know people are in pain but insulating Republicans from political consequences is not the answer.

Peggy gets it
There’s no one I trust less than Donald Trump and Mike Johnson.

Any deal that relies on Republicans to keep their word is a bad one.

Democrats can’t give up on affordable health care for an empty promise. Minnesotans can’t afford for Democrats to cave.
