While it's gotten very business class popsci ("thinking fast vs thinking slow") I do repeatedly find a sharp distinction among many people between heuristic/rule based thinking (eg where they follow a code & respond to things) and overall-evaluative tradeoff thinking. Deontology vs consequentialism.

The stakes for producing sound and factual knowledge are high in a world filled with misinfo and literal pseudoscience funded and marshaled to stand in as legitimate knowledge by federal governments. But the way knowledge-making is gatekept counterproductively undercuts its relevance in that world.

There should be more legitimate ways for people to produce knowledge in society, with support to do so at increasingly higher levels of quality, instead of repeatedly narrowing and gatekeeping the aperatures, which largely seems to have happened over competition for scarce resources and prestige

A. All European countries have practiced racial discrimination. What happened is that South Africa maintained it when it achieved full independence in 1961. So apartheid is not something South Africa invented but something it continued. For example, the Netherlands did not allow people of color to enter its territory until 1920, despite having colonies in countries with people of color. It’s not just that there is no legality here. The Israeli state is at war with the very concept of legality. The idea that there is such a thing as a baseline, fundamental notions such as a human rights etc. - these are to be destroyed to reduce the cost of the genocide on Israel.
Israel appears to be destroying high-rise buildings as part of its displacement efforts and aims to conquer Gaza city. Israeli law prof Eliav Lieblich comments: "17 years in the field and I haven't seen a 'state of law' that conducts itself like this. There isn't a millimetre of legality here."
