Great talk among people how some of the Fanatiques do say that the end of the world is at hand, and that next Tuesday is to be the day. Against which, whenever it shall be, good God fit us all.

As a matter of pure politics, the tactical advantage of picking a fight with a Navy pilot/astronaut is hard to understand. But also the specifics of the complaints are crazy.

"How dare you say that soldiers don't have to obey illegal orders?! And your many many medals are improperly displayed!"
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth is seeking to humiliate an American hero.

Senator Kelly flew 39 combat missions during the Gulf War in 1991 and flew four space shuttle missions (commanding two of them).

Had a liberal or leftist attempted anything 1% as headlong heedless of consequences as DOGE, it would have provided fodder for pious, ‘Chesterton’s Fence’ sermons about unintended consequences until the year 2400. It would have been the biggest argument for Burke since the Jacobins declared Year 1.
It remains insane to me that DOGE was treated at the time as an impressive shock and awe accomplishment - “you can’t deny he’s getting stuff done!” - and then instantly memory holed by the press once if became clear it was a total failure by every possible standard including Musk’s own
Difficult to overstate how profound a failure DOGE was. Spending in FY2025 was not only than in FY2024 – but higher than it was projected to be when Trump first took office.*

The little bit of spending DOGE cut has already killed hundreds of thousands and will eventually lead to millions of deaths.

THREAD: Judge Ellis is the first federal judge to review extensive body cam video of DHS's actions in Chicago. She finds that DHS *repeatedly* misled the public and made claims that were disproven by agents' own videos.

I'll go through some of the most egregious ones here.

We will not stop fighting until trans people are not just able to survive, but thrive and live safe, full, and joyful lives. May our collective grief, reflection, and action lead to a better future.

1) There were interviews. Fox didn't air them.
2) Due process isn't just for people we think are innocent. It's for everyone, even when we think they are guilty.
3) The US benefits from countries observing the traditional laws of the sea, and has every reason to set that example.
Cotton on Trump's boat strikes: "Use common sense. If any of these had been boats full of fisherman or refugees, CNN would've already been on the ground & interviewed all their families & told their stories. We can be confident all of these strikes have been against cartel-based drug traffickers."

I think when Biden was president, Republicans mostly understood that voters wanted an impossible fall in the nominal price level so Trump should promise them that.

But now that Trump is president, voters want him to deliver on his impossible promise and he is semi-fucked.

One of the overlearned lessons of the first term is the insistence that he has some unbreakable iron floor of support, ignoring how the current situation is a bajillion times more insane on multiple fronts than anything that happened during Trump I.
Three recent national polls now have Trump in the 30s, and his disapproval in the 60s....

Reuters/Ipsos 38%-60% (-22)
CNN/SRSS 37%-63% (-26)
AP/NORC 36%-62% (-26)

The thrill is gone, baby.
Trump takes big hit in two new polls released today:

Reuters/Ipsos
38% approve (-2)
60% disapprv (+2) 4 pt drop in past week
Echelon
42% approve (-4)
57% disapprv (+4) 8 pt drop since mid October

Ruh-roh Donnie boy!
