Over the weekend, my wife's 13-year-old niece stayed with us. And I got an up-close look at how Roblox has turned so many kids into gambling addicts.
The niece even admitted as much as she and her friends opened boxes for rare pets that could be sold/traded for more currency to place more bets.

I did need some beauty right about now. Thanks to you and to her.
Had occasion, as one does, to think on Shakespeare's sonnets this morning, which called to mind this bit of absolute gorgeousness from Judi Dench. In case you need some beauty: www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XKS...

Nothing illustrates the arseholery of the IOC and the British Press more than the use of the image of a not-Trans woman to illustrate a story about trans women being banned (because there are no current trans women competing at this level)

I get the argument for the cave that says "but they were going to kill/starve people!"
My problem with it is that there is NO sign they aren't STILL going to kill/starve people. Just they'll still have the filibuster to hide behind.
He's STILL gonna cut SNAP and the ACA. Still. (And blame Dems)

This a big deal: "China’s carbon dioxide emissions have been flat or falling for 18 months"
China's economy has grown by ~5% in the last year, so this comprehensively debunks the idea (again) that emissions are tied to growth. So yes, faster progress needed, but this is how you turn the corner.

instead of saying this was good strategy, maybe senate dems should say: "the republicans were going to kill people by starving them to death, and because we aren't monsters, we decided to let this fight go. We'll keep fighting. Stop electing monsters."

One thing I could not understand is how returns on stocks could be so good under Trump when the rest of the economy seems to be deteriorating.

The workers are bearing the load of the economy as the top 10% who own 87% of the market, & top 1% who own half, gain. As GOP guts food assistamce, healthcare, preschool, the infrastructure supporting agriculture (usda, weather; as they increase tariffs, cut SNAP, etc) the economy will collapse.
Musk and Trump's actions to institute apartheid in US benefit the investor class. Top 1% own half the stock market; top 10% own 87%. Black and Latino Americans in US collectively each own <1% of US stock market. War & prison industry take tax dollats from everyone to enrich the mostly white & rich.
