Detroit area lawyer. Michigan stan. Personally (as opposed to professionally) interested in China.

Open borders YIMBY.
Pinned
Wife no longer a fed.

I mute my threads when they hit the discover feed.

I do a lot of stream of conscious posting.

Fuck Sam Alito.
Intro post.

I'm a lawyer. My areas of law are not super interesting to a general audience so I don't post about them much. This is not my real name, anymore, because my wife is a fed and I don't want her to be purged. I am a lifelong metro Detroiter. Michigan is great, hands off our lakes.
Humans are, like all species, full of diversity, and that probably extends to the ideal times for any particular individual to be awake and asleep. Hth.

I can't find fault with this list, and it makes me realize how many of the movies are just not very good.
haven’t seen ROS or Solo but this seems like a pretty ball-knowing list from Pritzker, particularly if he volunteered the name “Star Wars” rather than “A New Hope”

Ah, I see the NYTimes is coming for the neurodiverse now. Just trying to hit as many targets as they can eh

Terrifying how quickly it's just become a normal thing for this admin to criminally investigate political enemies.
Pentagon says it's investigating Sen. Mark Kelly for video urging troops to defy 'illegal orders'
The Pentagon says that it is investigating Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly of Arizona for possible breaches of military law after Kelly joined a handful of other lawmakers in a video that called for U.S. t...

A federal judge has dismissed the charges against former FBI director James Comey, ruling that the former Trump attorney who brought the charges was not legally serving as the U.S. attorney.

My wife got me a couple of barbecue rubs from Austin when she was there for her conference, which went onto ribs for an overnight sous vide bath for dinner tonight.

My people are from pork country, Tennessee via NC, so I am, by nature, skeptical of Texascue, but trying to keep an open mind.

also not only CAN you build your way out of climate change, it's the only way out, and not building our way out of climate change dooms hundreds of millions to misery and displacement.

Was kind of curious what ended up happening with this, and so far it is going about as you might expect (not really what you'd expect if it was a firm deal)
Iowa economist: China’s purchases boost markets, but major soybean gap remains
China pledged to buy 12 million metric tons of U.S. soybeans. So far, only around 1 million has been purchased.

Making things look good and cool is important if you want more people to adopt them and realize some people are not robots
How on earth can you claim to be a product designer and outright dismiss what people like as a consideration?

Last time I went clean shaven was ~40 lbs ago and it is weird as shit looking in the mirror and seeing "chin" singular now.

Very weird body dysmorphia stuff.

Was suddenly reminded of a relative who works in education and says she'd do anything for "her" kids (students) and then acts upset that parents bring their kids from horrible conditions abroad to try to have a better life here and just like what the fuck do you think they're risking everything for.

Also thinking about two years of people screenshotting these random accounts on Twitter and bringing them over here for the dunks and:

Please don't.
Incredibly perverse that a particular US federal court and this admin have helped prop up Twitter by strong arming advertising dollars to the platform, only for those dollars to then go to bad actors abroad who are grifting off filling Americans with hate.

Which I guess is just Barry.
I'm liking this in its intended reading but also the idea of, like, an assassin who does the wet work just so he can pursue his true love of interpretative dance.

I think doge was actually pretty successful at wrecking shit and providing a smokescreen for less flashy wrecking.

Like yeah if it was there to actually increase efficiency it was a failure but I don't think that's why it was there (even if Musk genuinely believed it to be the case, to some extent)

It's cool that the very obvious, immediate thing this technology is useful for from a consumer perspective is like astroturfing and fraud.

This is the first time in my life where I've seen a new tech and wondered how we're gonna make it as a society.
Twitter pays people based on engagement (views, retweets, comments, etc). It appears that many MAGA accounts are based abroad and they use AI technology to generate low-effort rage bait.

My guess is that this will get worse as AI tech improves. For instance, fake videos of minorities doing crime.

Just occurred to me that the Mamdani/Trump thing is another opportunity to laugh at Cuomo, who debased himself to try to convince people that a NYC with a mayor Cuomo would have fewer problems blend with a Trump admin.
November 23, 2025 at 1:17 PM
I think if the pres openly invites you to meet with him, particularly if it's the first time, there's a lot of downside to saying no and not much upside. If/when things get bad in NYC re: fed relations, it would have been a mark against him if he'd refused the offer.
all jokes aside, it really beats me what Mamdani was playing at by getting a meeting with Trump (unless he was betting on Trump rolling over in the fashion he did I guess). why? what's the point?
