As an aside: Since I'm still in pie chart mode, here's a rough breakout of total healthcare enrollment for the entire U.S. population, a simplified version of my "Psychedelic Donut" which includes more granular data. It's a blend of hard numbers & estimates but should be pretty accurate overall.

One of the oddest — and distinct — attributes of modern GOP politics is the sheer confidence so many Republicans have tearing down things they fundamentally and clearly do not understand at all.

Holy shit: the weirdo running Social Security added administrative burdens to service delivery in Maine after its Governor disagreed with Trump over trans athletes. The idea that public services should be provided consistently and honestly seems beyond them.

This is the final step on the road to authoritarian fascism.

If the President can rule by decree and cannot be scrutinized or reviewed by the other two branches, then this experiment in democracy is done.
If the Supreme Court ultimately agrees with what the gov't is arguing today, that the President has broad Article II powers that would permit it to deport people & there can be no judicial review, then literally no one is safe.

Senate began long descent after '94 Gingrich election; it accelerated in early 2000s, with fewer amendments from minority, more cloture votes, & more gridlock. Then McConnell broke many remaining norms.
Do you know how many current Dem Sens were in Senate before '94 election?
One: Patti Murray.

However the CR politics shake out, Democrats can quite safely assume that R's are setting themselves for big political blowback and will leave plenty of wreckage behind. Smart MoC's should be thinking about what they might build then. And to do that, they should read this.
