oh hey this is 100% what SDOT, seattle office of sustainability & environment are also doing (or rather, not doing)
I think entirely too much about how California’s climate plan explicitly says that converting to EVs is not nearly enough to meet our greenhouse gas reduction targets so we need to reduce VMT 25% by 2030, and then we do basically nothing to try to achieve that goal

in brooklyn after one of my talks, an architect whose wife is from madrid was talking about how every time they go back - not only is there more bike/ped stuff making streets safer & more livable - but they're iterating & making things better where *previously* improved

we can't do either in the US
So, Pike Place pedestrianization is over? What the fuck @pikeplacemarket.bsky.social?

market ave when?
Three years ago, Utrecht completed the transformation of the Sint Josephlaan and turned an unattractive, unlivable car sewer into a green city boulevard.

It shows that even Dutch cities were not always like they are today and have often come a long way in becoming better versions of themselves.

inflation up
housing costs up
interest rates up
transportation costs up
healthcare costs up
tariffs up

i can't imagine why people are struggling
"Costs for goods and services are 25% above where they were in 2020. Even though the inflation rate is below its recent 2022 high, certain essentials like coffee, ground beef and car repairs are up markedly this year."

wow
Welp, after years of planning, pots of dedicated funding, promises that despite other elements getting yanked from the plans that sidewalk repairs were still on the table, the only sidewalk on LWB that got repaved this year was the segment right in front of Bruce's house.

New research compares the use of electric and regular bikes in DC's Capital Bikeshare network.

Conclusion: E-bikes make bikeshare better.

"E-bikes enable broader dispersion across the city by connecting more distant bikeshare stations and supporting extended mobility."

This is not a peace plan. It is a proposal that weakens Ukraine and divides America from Europe, preparing the way for a larger war in the future. In the meantime, it benefits unnamed Russian and American investors, at the expense of everyone else.

the incumbent who lost seattle's mayoral race claimed now was not the time for hope.

not only do we need hope in this moment - we need action. actual leadership. for once.

LFG!
Nearly every panel I spoke on this year ended with the same question: "What gives you hope?"

My friends, that question expired years ago. (If you need receipts, my book Saving Us is literally a 300-page answer.)

The real question is: How are you PRACTICING hope?

Because Greta is right ..
