Recently wife and I stunlocked a guy who works in the bleeding edge of AI (San Francisco) and asked him if, instead of putting AGI in a brain implant, he can just start with a consumer printer that works reliably. Genuinely he did not know what to say.
Even former Thiel Fellows are starting to realize that the tech industry hebben een serieus probleem

I love how much of that show was reclaiming the trite consumerist phrases you get in ads like “the only thing more powerful than hate is love” and “together we are america” to actually…make them mean something real

Benito is a threat b/c he makes art so alluring and enjoyable you want to understand everything about it and then you end up learning about sugar and slavery and colonialism and the Taínos and Hawaii and then you probably have some thoughts of your own, and that's why art is powerful and dangerous

the cool part about the Dumbarton Bridge is you can bike from Union City BART along Alameda Creek and all the way out on the levee trails and just kind of be in the middle of the bay hanging out

I’m not actually watching but I cannot stop my self from saying this:

They should show the Dumbarton Bridge
It's so weird they keep showing the Golden Gate as placesetting scenery for a game in Santa Clara instead of 101.

A very useful story Mission Local or the Chronicle could do next week is to Sunshine details on the number and purpose of motorcades conducted this week and identify the overtime costs of SFPD escorts without any legitimate security purpose

35 of these violations were for school speed zone cameras.

Remember- the cameras have a 10 mph grace and don’t ticket unless the car is caught going 11 mph above the speed limit. Ariola is a sociopath.

Trump Station? Trump Airport? What the president asked for in exchange for releasing frozen Gateway Tunnel funds, reports say
President Donald Trump froze billions for the project during a dispute with Democrats last year. Construction is set to stop Friday.

Those overpriced sweatshirts are the foundation of our local economy. Climate change is coming for the tourist trap sweatshirt sellers
this false spring in the Bay Area on Super Bowl week beginning to piss me off. the very nice weather deprives SF tourists a core local experience: frantically buying a $100 low-quality sweatshirt bc the fog rolled in and they are caught in shorts and a t-shirt

S.F.'s jail in SoMa had extremely limited access to hot water for all of January, according to a half-dozen incarcerated people and one jail staff member.

As a result, they said, many people stopped taking showers, exacerbating a feeling of filth.

the cost curve for BART service cuts is just absolutely brutal. Under any scenario, most of the savings from deep service cuts are just immediately cancelled out by reduced revenue because people stop riding

it's really bleak. come help prevent this! luma.com/connectbayarea

If the Connect Bay Area measure fails, BART would slash service by 63% in January 2027:

Reduced base schedule: 3 lines with 2 trains per hour, resulting in 240% more transfers

NO evening service, service ending at 9 pm

Close 10 lowest ridership stations...

love to create new kafka-esque nightmares for people who want medical care
Lawmakers in Florida (a non-expansion state) are apparently considering a Medicaid work requirements bill.

Except Florida's income eligibility thresholds are so low that forcing people to meet an 80-hour/month requirement would force them off of the program.

A fundamental tension:

Robotaxi services can make the most money in dense urban neighborhoods—which are precisely the places that need them least.
Robotaxi companies are scrambling to expand in cities, but they’re ignoring rural America. They shouldn’t.

AVs could do a world of good in the countryside (and unlike in dense cities, they’d fit well into existing transport networks).

My guest essay in The Driverless Digest. 🧵
AV companies are ignoring rural America. That's a shame.
Today’s post comes from David Zipper, a Senior Fellow at the MIT Mobility Initiative known for his writing on transportation policy, technology, and urban planning.
