A longer gap and also much less likely you’ll find *any* woman who will do that because we’ve been spending decades reinventing what being a woman means and men have not done the same work to free themselves of the patriarchy.

They have work to do.

Once you see it it becomes impossible not to notice the media consent-manufacutring machine that responds to literally every social crisis with the diagnosis that "women too free."
My sense is that the “male loneliness crisis” is not really about addressing men’s emotional needs but rather the relatively newfound absence of having someone to perform domestic labor for you quietly in the background now that there is a longer gap between your mother and your wife doing it

One of the great failures of contemporary political news coverage in a lot of media is the unspoken principle that no violation of norms or decency by Trump is really news, worthy of sustained attention, unless it also upsets people who love him. It isn't "not taking the bait"; it's sleepwalking.

Monday at work I had this great insight: the reason that publics are so opposed to AI is mostly because they are opposed to unregulated and arrogant financial capitalism. It's about the power relationships, and the imposition of that rubric and that arrogance into every part of our lives.

I say this as someone whose entire job is finding the narrow use cases in which AI is actually useful:

All the fear about AI, all the reluctance to adopt it, is entirely legitimate, and a product of the fact that it's been foisted on the public with no consideration of its negative externalities.
I continue to have no sympathy left for whinging about how the public are rude about AI and feel threatened by it when the biggest players in the AI space have spent years very vocally and constantly *threatening the public*

Maybe that's always been the truth and I should have paid more attention in Anarchism Class, but I don't know.

I feel like I vaguely remember a time where there was at least SOME expectation of moral leadership from public leadership.

And I will say as someone who once did aspire to a public leadership role, it is really gross to have to realize that these roles almost uniformly require acquiescence to the worst policies and people on earth.

There's no formal moral leadership because our formal leadership precludes morality.

The first school to market itself as AI free is going to corner the market on people interested in actually learning. And I would not be surprised if rich families and the children of people creating this tech were the first movers.
My employer, Dartmouth College, today boasts it's 1st Ivy "to launch AI at an institutional scale." It is doing this by partnering--"more than a collaboration"--with Anthropic, a company that stole the books of many faculty, me included, which many of us are suing.

I don’t want to be pollyannish about the past, but it was basically inconceivable twenty years ago that a president would say this publicly
Trump: "It’s a hellhole right now. And those Somalians should be out of here. They've destroyed our country. And all they do is complain, complain, complain. You have her. She’s always talking about the Constitution provides me with – go back to your own country and figure out your constitution."

These guys never bother to ask why women don't want Trumpers. They just assume it's virtue signaling. The MAGA movement worships a rapist and has destroyed abortion rights, with their sights set on the rights to BC, divorce and voting next. Trumpers are not safe for us to be with.

At the same time the NY Times was hyping Hillary Clinton's emails, it had a reporter with emails from Jeffrey Epstein that were highly damaging to Trump.

The more NYT apologists try to minimize this the clearer it becomes that they don't understand why much of the public doesn't trust legacy media.

Some of you want life to go back to how it was in 2016. That's your version of The Good Time (tm), because it was before ICE raids, and DOGE, and before science funding cuts.

But that's not what I want.

I want to go forward to The Good Times(tm), where Black folk don't get treated like this either
