That sucks.

it should be a mandatory medical and therapeutic protocol that if someone has depression or anxiety that they automatically get screened for ADHD,

There’s so much ignorance and stigma against ADHD in the medical industry

And therapeutic industry too sadly

I was just watching a CE by Dr Richard Sears who was using the metaphor of a "messenger" to describe emotions. While emotions do more than merely convey information, I've found it helpful in explaining the functions of emotions.
Our emotions perform essential FUNCTIONS in our bodies.

Or try to.

Even the unruly and unpleasant ones.

Contemplating these functions can gift us with new respect for the pushes and pulls, the ups and downs our emotional responses move through.
Riding the Roller Coaster - the function of emotion

Most of us learn very early to see our emotions as problems, as distractions, as disturbances that need to be banished or fixed, or else as commands to impulsive actions. What if they are something else entirely?

A while ago, I read an article presenting some of the data on more efficient glucose use after methylphenidate, which many use to support the DMN-switch issue theory. For those interested you can find it at www.nature.com/articles/npp...

If people want to know the reason why people with ADHD experience more mental noise than most.

A reasonable theory is due to default mode network activation differences.

NTs brains switch to the task positive network when doing something, the DMN is inactive.

It doesn't happen with ADHD.

Emotions are both vital information and necessary for action. Intellectually "knowing" is not enough for directed action (got to trigger that HPA axis).
As a therapist, I try to remind my clients that emotions and behaviors are not the same.
And that functional emotional regulation is not on/off.
I don’t trust anyone who thinks anger is an emotion that shouldn’t be felt, or someone who tries to quickly make you get over anger without processing it because it’s “negative”.

Re-reading Camus' Resistance, Rebellion, and Death.
It hurts how much these writings still resonate.
"Every insubordinate person, when he rises up against oppression, reaffirms thereby the solidarity of all men."

Therapist help request:

Does anyone have links handy to studies done showing telehealth therapy being just as effective as in person?

Choose 20 books that have stayed with you or influenced you. One book per day for 20 days, in no particular order.
No explanations, no reviews, just covers

Day? /20

How do you neurodivergent type make sure the boring parts of work get done?
Documenting hours, charting, email, etc. the uninteresting parts of work life, but the parts that are required for getting paid.
Where is the dopamine in that?
My guess is starting small with big rewards. #ADHD

Clinical psy/counselors/therapists/neuropsy folks
How do you make sense of seemingly inconsistent scores between CAARS2 (for ex) and neuropsych tests when ax for ADHD?

I'm guessing it's partly due to ADHD being an issue of *inconsistent* attention and dopamine.

Resources welcome.

I get what you're saying. But I'm not sure stigmatizing DV survivors is the way to go. But since we're there...why not show some moral imagination... what could lead someone to stay in toxic relationships?

Hint: it doesn't correlate with "low IQ".

Okay peeps, which is best practice: commenting on a post or re-posting with comment? Word on the street is re-posting impacts the algorithm, but it seems like a re-post isn't necessarily easy to see or generate a conversation from. Thoughts?

As a psychotherapist who also sees a lot of clients with anxiety, I've found that teaching clients diaphragmatic breathing for acute distress is helpful, but integrating diaphragmatic breathing/relaxation exercises into waking and bedtime routines helps reduce baseline anxiety sx.

I just found out people have followed me back. There was much less pressure when "Su Rowbottom" followed me. Although, she never posted, so maybe that was a kind of passive-aggressive silent treatment.

That said, thank you moots!
If I'm quiet it's my rejection sensitivity winning.
