Deporting people doesn’t prevent gun violence. Strong gun laws, violence intervention programs, and listening to data — that’s what prevents gun violence.

Meanwhile, the Trump administration is diverting money from violence prevention and using it to terrorize immigrants. That’s not public safety.
NEW: President Trump tonight confirmed suspect in the shooting that critically injured two West Virginia National Guard members in D.C. is an Afghan national and vowed to step up his administration's hardline immigration crackdown.

Trump vowed his administration will "re-examine every single" immigrant who had entered the U.S. from Afghanistan under Biden.

I'll be back more regularly after my semester ends, but in the mean time, I'm in the @forward.com talking about Mamdani's response to the protest at Park East synagogue last week, and why ambivalence is sometimes okay. forward.com/opinion/7861...
What does Mamdani's response to synagogue protests mean for Jews? No one will like the answer.
Zohran Mamdani's response to a protest outside Park East synagogue satisfied no one. But it might speak to a crucial truth about Jewish life.

Zohran also completely defanged the bad faith allegations of antisemitism that have plagued and limited the left for *decades*
the fact is, even the most bloodless centrists and donald fucking trump are now banging on about 'affordability'. whether you like it or not, it's a total Zohran cultural victory

Considering Eric Adams deliberately, as one of his last acts, left a huge $5 billion hole in the budget to screw over Mamdani, feel like Zohran's justified in purging all Adams staffer actually
SCOOP: More than 170 staffers in Mayor Eric Adams’ administration will be notified Wednesday that they will not be working under the administration of incoming Mayor Zohran Mamdani, according to multiple people familiar with the matter.

I can't speak for what was said at the protests, but seeing people react to an anodyne statement like "sacred spaces should not be used to promote activities in violation of international law" as if it were a vicious slur is clarifying.
Zohran Mamdani chastised a Manhattan synagogue that hosted an event promoting migration to Israel and settlements in occupied territories. His stance further tested his strained relationship with pro-Israel Jews in New York.

Why are you platforming him? His anti-Zionism is not one of human rights universalism. He just hates Jews. He’s a Christo-fascist tribalism who hates other tribalisms and has no love for any universal humanism.
Tucker Carlson describes Israeli PM Netanyahu as Western civilization’s “main enemy.”

He says Zionism and other forms of tribalism are “an attack on Western civilization.”

Proud to announce that @sanders.senate.gov is endorsing our campaign for Congress!

I worked with Bernie in 2020 for the same reasons I'm running now: to un-rig the economy and make it work for working people, not billionaires and corporations.

A better world is possible. Let's win this.

Fun fact:

Mariano tried to act like a vote that happened in 1994 was just a few years ago.

By my count, 64 out of the 160 MA state reps were not even eligible to vote yet in 1994, with 8 of them not born yet.

you shouldn't host events at synagogues encouraging people to illegally settle in occupied territory, which is an act that directly interferes in the possibility of a two-state solution. you also shouldn't protest outside a synagogue while chanting "death to" anyone.
