Lots of rumblings that the Trump administration will intervene to block the Netflix-Warner Bros merger, & pave the way for a Paramount takeover that would include CNN, a further corruption of broadcast news. But state AGs have the power to stop this, if they act fast.

The Wild Card in Trump’s Attempt to Control the News - The American Prospect
State attorneys general will have a say in whether Paramount ultimately succeeds in taking over CNN, HBO, and the rest of Warner Bros. Discovery.

Love the Massachusetts accent on the archival recording: "7 Maaaaatch, 1949"
In 1949, WHOI researchers recorded what ended up being the earliest-preserved whale song—without realizing what they'd captured! 🐳🎶

Nearly 80 years later, that sound has resurfaced!

a) pretty sure 95% of stuff like this is fake and intended to go viral on shock value, and guess what we're all participating
b) it could hardly make pod coffee *worse*

if Boston had any heart as a city there'd be more than this weak "strongly worded letter" to keep a T station open so unhoused folks can stay warm in cold weather

Marty Walsh says homeless people dying outside South Station is a ‘disgrace.’ No one in power wants to own the problem. - The Boston Globe
Ten years ago, a "gentleman's agreement" allowed people with nowhere to go on frigid winter nights to sleep in South Station. It's time to make that agreement formal.

Trader Joe's needs to unionize if only to liberate the cashiers from having to pretend to get excited about one (1) item in every purchase

One of my opponents, Seth Moulton, has accepted money from Palantir.
Any Republican or Democrat who continues to support Palantir, takes money from them, or refuses to hold them accountable is not your friend and should not be supported.

What’s most disturbing to me re @mayor.nyc.gov’s failure to uphold the .05% allocation for libraries is that these are THE socialist institution, islands designed to secure everyone’s equal & free access to knowledge, tech & space otherwise monetized. They should be a socialist’s top priority.

I had a great cheesecake the other day and it reaffirmed this take
I love a great cheesecake but most cheesecake is mid. And that definitely includes Cheesecake Factory.

Boston DSA joins the rest of the country in mourning the passing of Reverend Jesse Jackson. Jackson began his career fighting for economic liberation in the Civil Rights Movement. Unlike many leaders from that era, he remained influential despite a brutal right wing backlash.

Boston DSA hit 2,500 members on the same day National DSA hit 100,000! Being 2.5% of the largest socialist organization in American history is a unique honor and we can not wait to keep fighting for a better world with all of you (and hopefully thousands more).

I regularly see people wondering how it's possible that there are so many musicians and writers and film makers and artists from a tiny nation like Iceland.

And the answer is really simple: State funding for art education and artists. I literally get a salary from the government to write books.
I’m constantly astounded at the sheer level of artistic production coming out of Iceland. Novels, movies, music. Amazing.

People who don’t sleep enough tend to struggle with exhaustion and long-term health issues. But short sleepers, who make up less than one per cent of the population, spend significantly less time snoozing without any apparent health consequences. newyorkermag.visitlink.me/NtCLAR

the thing I'd want to see tested more precisely is the effect on "independents" and whether that's just the same effect but concentrated among Rs who call themselves independents or if there's something closer to persuasion (as opposed to radicalization) going on

the chart just joins them up
