I get a chuckle out of "Ds need to be tougher on crime" as places run by liberals are doing objectively well according to crime stats. What Matt means here is Ds need to make a show of kicking criminals, not that they need to reduce crime.
What Democrats need to do is neither embrace the ideas of the Bernie / AOC / Mamdani faction nor obsessively freeze Bernie / AOC / Mamdani out.
What they have to do is be tougher on crime and illegal immigration and prioritize broad-based prosperity over emissions reductions and identity politics.

I'm not sure I envy someone who loves their job this much, but the complete inability for so many people who do to look out at the world and see that other people might have careers that aren't quite so fulfilling and interesting is always astounding to me.
