Im seeing discussions about consultations with congress, authorizations of force etc. I have to say this transcends any of what I would call sub constitutional technicalities. The president has gone to war with a foreign power and, it seems, kidnapped a foreign head of state on the basis of nothing.

The idea that a bunch of judges could force a state, over the objection of its legislature, to let anyone wander around with a gun would have been as foreign to the founders as the 6-7 meme
To be alive in America in 2025 is to have a bunch of robed lunatics insist that the constitution requires that nutjobs wander around your neighborhood or campus with weapons or mass murder, even though no previous generation of Americans ever lived though this nonsense.

At least we don’t live in a world of staggering class disparity in which a tech magnate attempts to quash left-wing sentiment using sexualized artificial intelligence!

I was behind Steve Kerr at airport security on my way to my bachelor party at Vegas Summer League, so I just decided to tell him that.

He said “that’s awesome” in a way that at least seemed genuine.
Right folks. Feeling rather down at the moment so bringing back an oldie

Foreign Policy Analysis is low key the darkly funniest field ever now. Are we at war? Does the president himself know? Who are we at war with? Why? Something to do with drugs and/or oil? We’re either invading Venezuela, Nigeria, neither, or both.
Either Trump believes the US struck a Venezuelan facility on Christmas Eve because he was told that erroneously, or he's conflating different stories, or we actually did what he claims. Regardless of explanation, we need that information.

People are weirdly aggressive/defensive (respectively) about this, but it’s genuinely quite interesting that a series of movies that everyone has seen and liked enough to keep coming back is mostly culturally received through this sort of financial, technological, and/or metatextual analysis!
Avatar has had a staggering cultural impact, in that every time one of the movies is released there is a flood of articles/comments/assertions about how little cultural impact it has had, any franchise that causes that consistent level of engagement in the chattering class is making a hell of a mark

The line of shit that's been settled on is "these people were treated very unfairly by the justice system, which I happen to know something about (ha ha ha)" and so all corruption concerns are irrelevant. Patently absurd but the press is duty-bound not to interrogate either ridiculous claim
is there anybody even denying that the pardons are paid for or do we just kind of all accept this now?
GOP operatives Jacob Wohl and Jack Burkman, convicted election fraudsters, were paid $960,000 in the second quarter to secure a pardon for a former nursing-home operator who defrauded the government of $38 million. Trump pardoned the man, Joseph Schwartz, last month.

It’s cool that the most powerful person in the world is basically just “what if Benito Mussolini had been kicked in the head by a horse”
Trump: We need Greenland for national protection. They have a very small population. They say Denmark, but Denmark has no military protection. They say that Denmark was there 300 years ago with a boat—well, we were there with boats too I’m sure.

It used to be that the United States would use Voice of America and Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty to transmit truth across the borders of repressive regimes.

Now the work of American reporters, having been censored, is being smuggled across the border to reach Americans.
