I get the point, but this is strongly tending towards being groundwork for a future 'hey we should be nice to the right and form a coalition with them'

we produce tonnes of marketable, valuable, productive stuff that we could sell to the world — like university education, and television programmes, for example — but the government has no interest in improving the conditions for making and selling these things
The UK’s economic problems are quite deep-rooted. The best summary I can offer is “we don’t make enough valuable, productive stuff and sell it to the world any more”.
Things like planning and energy no doubt play a role in that - but I don’t think they’re enough to fix it on their own

By getting express trains off the existing network, HS2 clears space for others - particularly FREIGHT. Fewer lorries on roads = major CO2 win.
The northern legs, presently "cancelled", are the crucial part. We need to safeguard the routes and BUILD THEM.

Resurrect HS2 northern leg to boost rail freight capacity, say UK manufacturers
Reviving line to Manchester and Leeds would help get lorries off roads and cut emissions, according to lobby group

Speaking of SCOTUS - they're going to try and repeal Obergefell when they get round to it. Look at the slew of fascist crap coming out of there in the last week, let alone the last year.

A supposed republic ruled by 6 lifetime appointees (and 1 who's going to try and make himself one)
🚨By a 6–3 vote, the Supreme Court ALLOWS states to defund Planned Parenthood, holding that Medicaid does not give patients a right to obtain care from its providers. All three liberals dissent. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24p...

Apparently yesterday was the 10th anniversary of Obergefell, the SCOTUS decision that legalised equal marriage across the US

I can vividly remember it happening - of all things, I was recording an EP with my uni band at a USW studio in Cardiff. Feels like yesterday. And a good feeling it was too

Labour still using FPTP as a stick to beat potential voters with

'We know we're not what you want, but have you considered that we don't care?'

Some things never change
Yes: they do not see the rise of the far right as a serious problem to be fought against. They see it as an opportunity to get more of what they themselves want, with impunity.

Labour used to be the lesser of two evils, even under Blair's most rightwing instincts.

Now it's just a blend of Tories and Reform, precious little daylight between any of them
Sometimes people tell me I should shut up about Labour’s attacks on trans people, because the alternative is worse. Well, Labour’s policies are going to kill trans people, just as the PIP cuts will kill disabled people. I’m not going to shut up about that, no matter what.
On Saturday, I am talking to yet more grieving parents whose trans son has taken his own life. I expect @rthonwesstreeting.bsky.social will again pretend that what's irresponsible is not his policies (which his own civil servants warned him risked suicides) but me for mentioning it.

Screw him.

They actually did it. All those memes about 'ooh, we'll send a letter!' and months after Trump was elected, Schumer actually thinks that's good enough

Instant grounds to never take him and his ilk seriously ever again
Schumer on the Democratic response to Trump's shakedown of Harvard: "We sent him a very strong letter just the other day asking eight very strong questions."
