A government of the choads, by the choads, for the choads.
"The Donald Trump administration has changed which holidays qualify for free entrance to national parks, removing two holidays celebrating Black people and adding the president’s birthday."
National parks change prioritizes Trump birthday over days honoring Black people
Free entrance days at national parks no longer include MLK Day and Juneteenth.

The conservative cultural project right now is to use the coercive power of the state to do affirmative action for bigots.

Currently 20% into Revelation Space by Alastair Reynolds and man, I dunno… the world is fun but the expository prose and wooden characters are making me dread picking it back up. Competition between my Protestant guilt around DNF’ing novels and desire to jump to something more enjoyable.

finally, conspiracy theorists will be correct when in saying that "They" are running things
LOOK, all im saying is we've tried patriarchy and if you go back far enough we've even tried matriarchy, but we've never tried rule by neuter gender. i believe we should try something new in this bold new era (i am very unbiased)
I think this shows that right-wing men are too emotional and reactive to govern effectively, this whole “masculinism” thing has gone too far and we need to get back to the traditional feminine values that built this country

It brings me no joy to report that the PNW oldheads who tell you the way to survive winter here is to get out in the weather are correct (started running again in the AM to prep for a Thanksgiving 5K, happiest early November in years)

The government being closed, no jobs report, but SPY still being up by nearly 1/2 a percent this morning has some real “no parents, no rules” energy.

again, as somebody who has actually lived in a dictatorship and worked with dissidents from across the world, this kind of whiny cosplaying by academics pretending they have some secret knowledge of resistance is very annoying.
What we're seeing in the "don't sign up for protests" discourse is what Paulo Freire described as the convert's failure to trust the knowledge of the oppressed. As the convert tries to stand in solidarity with the oppressed, they refuse to let go of a world where they were the authority by default.

On a “let’s refresh my notetaking setup again” kick and coming to terms with the fact that although I wish I was a curator I’m actually just a hoarder, and that at 41 I need to embrace that instead of trying to grow out of it.

God give me the confidence of Claude Code solving a problem. "The key is to!" declared 5 times over in the same chat. Although credit where credit's due: it solved it in the end, 10x faster than I would have.

Everything that’s happened over the past six months has been a response to an imaginary crisis. There is no immigrant invasion. No trade crisis. No scientific or governance crisis. Just people completely high off their own supply trying to fundamentally reorder society. None of this had to happen.

This isn’t funny at all. Falls are the leading cause of accidental death for adults age 65 and over. There’s a non-zero chance he faceplants into a crumpled orange pile while descending the Air Force One stairs one of these days, and yet you people are laughing? Shame.

💯 absolute fucking projectionist nonsense. I have a lovely big house now, took me till age 39 to buy it. Knock down the house next to me. Build a fourplex. Clog my street parking. Obstruct my views. Give me some great new restaurants and cute kids to come trick or treating.
As a YIMBY homeowner, let me add that citing someone's hypothetical future hypocrisy as an alternative to trying to defend your position on the merits is an incredibly tiresome and useless form of argument

I enjoy reading non-fiction on my Kindle but sometimes when I’m sitting at 78% and hit the next page button I get a “wait, the book is over?” jump scare that doesn’t happen in print. (I just finished @lioneltrolling.bsky.social’s excellent and heavily-footnoted When The Clock Broke)

Sucks that there are real societal costs to the bureaucratic over-indexing on process over outcomes and byzantine requisitioning to avoid the slightest appearance of graft, but the bullshit timeline era we live in will permanently negatively polarize people on “efficiency” reforms for a generation.

I need a day between the weekend and the work week to be “re-acclimated to domestic life in preparation for a reunion with my owners”
Valerie, the miniature dachshund, disappeared in 2023, slipping out of her pen and into the bush on Australia’s Kangaroo Island. For the next 529 days, she eluded capture. Now, she is “safe and sound” and is being re-acclimated to domestic life in preparation for a reunion with her owners.
After 529 Days, Valerie the Dachshund Has Been Rescued
She survived more than a year in the Australian wilderness. But reuniting her with her owners will take a little more time.
