I genuinely think part of the ‘raw milk’ mania is coming from people who simply don’t know what pasteurisation is or why it’s done, and this is why history and heritage education matters.

Gender roles "play a significant role in shaping individual carbon footprints,” study finds.

How nice to be told by Keir Starmer that my mother who delivered babies, as a midwife, worked nights and damaged her back lifting patients as a nurse, was a pillar of her community as a health visitor has caused “incalculable damage” to the UK !

Lurching to the right on immigration will never get Reform supporters to vote Labour again but it will push progressive voters towards the Greens and Lib Dems. As well as being morally grotesque, truly baffling Starmer’s team don’t get the electoral maths of today’s speech.

How are you supposed to get a gender recognition certificate, which requires you to have lived in your acquired gender, now the Supreme Court has said you are not allowed to live in your acquired gender?

Could someone please explain to me what the Equality Act has to do with women’s toilets? Honestly, I don’t have time to read the 85 page judgment but how can someone else using a loo that I use constitute discrimination against me? It makes no sense to me.

This is what it comes down to in terms of how we actually function in society: not “what is a woman?”, but “how do you know I’m a woman?” Nobody has ever asked to inspect my gametes or chromosomes. Presentation is literally all anyone is going on.
I mean I’m a fairly femme cis woman but I don’t carry any ID on me that shows my gender. How could I *prove* I am a woman, if I had to, in a way that isn’t just “well she looks like a girl, fair enough”?

I really think this goes for national government too. Large numbers of people voted Labour because you can’t get an ambulance to come to your house any more and there’s sewage on all the beaches. If those things aren’t solved, then… where does the electorate go from there?
We have essentially broken any social contract between the electorate and the local services they pay for. So I won’t be massively surprised if a bunch of people come in and say “let’s do this totally unworkable thing” and local electors go sure ok, the current situation isn’t working, whatever

I tell you how unserious this “protecting women” idea is. Discourse started a couple of weeks ago about misogynistic violence due to a TV show which in itself is grim but instead of discussing how to tackle misogyny in boys from an early age they proposed a phone ban.

A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die.

Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.

This is exactly the important thing to keep in mind about Starmer et al.
No he's not. Giving in implies that he doesn't want to do this stuff.

He doesn't have to do this at all, it's deeply unpopular, he just wants to.

He not giving in to the Far Right; he's Explicitly doing policies that alienate his base and party in order to appeal to fascists.

He IS Far Right.

When I read this I think of several of Labour’s excellent backbench MPs and wonder what they think of this, of how Starmer is treating the landslide majority they earned for him.
I have not seen such a blatant anti-immigrant statement based on falsehoods, pitting people against people, in some time. Statement made by Keir Starmer at today’s immigration summit.

Meaning, of course: "in breach of".

On the face of it, it looks like there is now a full constitutional crisis in United States, in that the executive is now freely ignoring court orders.

Crisis point reached.
