I have many thoughts about this, one is I can't help but think this is all just shining a light on how games are still being held to wildly different standards than other media like film. I've played very few games like HORSES but watched so many films like it (as a connoisseur of arthouse horror).

So… There are still technical reasons for this though they are ones that could be solved another way.
The most common is their use as a way to break up the NavMesh so enemies can’t follow players into certain areas. This seems to be their primary use in Silent Hill f for example.

Silent Hill f feels like it understands Silent Hill - and late 90s early 2000s survival horror - perfectly. In the most positive way it feels like it is a product of that era.

If EA gets prime rate (which it wont with a single B rating) its 7.25% which is $1.5 B. Their total profit was for 2024 was $2.08B. This doesn't look like a company meant to survive.
My colleagues at Bloomberg report that the $20 billion debt in the EA deal is expected to be rated single-B — meaning it is considered a "junk" loan, or one that is high-risk and speculative, typically offering high interest rates. Which the new EA will have to pay

I wrote about this in "The Unaccountability Machine" - when you describe leveraged buyouts to ordinary people, half of them say that it should be illegal and the other half are often convinced that it already is.
Buying a company by taking out a massive loan, then making the company you bought responsible for paying off that loan, is so patently evil that it should be beyond illegal. The kind of thing that inspires enlightened societies without corporal punishment to bring back the death penalty as a one-off
