I liked the way they combined the levels, doesn’t make them as big as I’d like but better at least.

I’ve not heard of one. Thief fans are a little more… erm… dedicated.

I suspect these are the same people that forget you had a horse and could ride between areas in the first 3 games.

TLOU2 and Silent Hill 2 Remake have weird ones where there’s one and also a door but I think they are used to allow players to take shortcuts AI can’t.

The simplest way to think of them is as ways to transition between states. You might want to avoid combat occurring in puzzle areas so you put one between them, you might want to not have NPCs interfere with cutscenes so you use one before a cutscene, etc.

Yeah. There are other ways to limit the NavMesh, they also use windows or ladders etc. I suspect some levels they just have invisible NavMesh blockers anyway. \o/

Wildfire is entirely 2D side-scrolling and we still had an equivalent because being able to define a space that was clearly usable by players but not enemies has a bunch of benefits.

The notion that this was only ever for streaming somehow took over, even though by the time that was common belief it had mostly stopped being necessary.

Silent Hill 2 Remake is as a whole a good game, but it’s both beholden to its source material and a product of its time in a way that ends up making it less than the sum of its parts. It is fundamentally a remake.

Sounds like my read on the levels is accurate - well designed but smaller in scale than original Thief. I'm imaginging something akin to the size of a Thief: Deadly Shadows level without the loading zone split in the middle. www.eurogamer.net/thief-vr-leg...
Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow is a valiant attempt to put the stealthy series back on track
Could the return of Stephen Russell as the master sneak thief Garrett redeem the Thief series? Find out in this Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow preview!
