Carney’s “joke” is actually an admission that the government has no capacity to assess & implement digital economic policy (which is to say, economic policy). And instead of treating this as a problem to be solved, he’s cutting capacity further and turning policymaking over to industry.

Nice to see a defence analysis that realistically grapples with the fundamental F-35 compromise: they would always remain under US control.
This must be the starting point of any F-35 evaluation.
(BTW, what they describe is a de facto kill switch.)

However, the F-35 may not be deployed without Washington’s tacit approval, which controls the aircraft’s software, sensitive data flows and maintenance systems. This dependence limits Canadian operational sovereignty in a European context. Thus, while the F-35 is perfectly suited to continental defence, it does not alone constitute a satisfactory response to Canada’s strategic autonomy requirements.

Trump's illegal murders in the Caribbean just got worse. An internal DOJ memo on the bombings says the victims are waging war on the US, but per NYT, it extensively cites the WH's *own claims* to this effect as evidence!

What it is like to have strangers with guns traumatize your kids. For a teacher to hide a three-year-old child for fear they might be killed. How their relatives will no longer leave the house. A family friend was telling us about what her husband shared about his experience in Broadview before he was deported back to Mexico. She's been sharing to friends and family because she's just in disbelief & horror what her husband told her. She wasn't able to talk to him until he was in Mexico.

And now their argument to the Supremes is that the President has imposed regulatory tariffs, not revenue-generating tariffs, and so case isn't about the power to tax. (Nonsense, obv.)

Weaning Canada off of US tech dependence can’t be done overnight. But it isn’t “impossible,” just expensive and time-consuming. That’s simply a reason to get started right now. As always, the rule should be: if you wouldn’t outsource it to China, you should stop outsourcing it to US companies.

One problem with testing "on an equal basis" with Russia and China is that they might not be on equal basis with each other. If we match Russia, China gets a free pass to follow. China has the smallest number of tests (45 v 🇷🇺715 and 🇺🇸1032) and ∴ the most to gain from new data.
