Asking kids to show their parents’ tax returns before I give out any candy. There’s a sliding-scale depending on household income. Thankfully we’re ensuring no one who can afford a tootsie roll gets a free one. The downside is that it takes 45 minutes per kid to determine whether they’re eligible.

Loads of families are currently trick or treating from business to business and parking lot to parking lot along 26th Street in Little Village. There’s also loads of rapid responders with vests and whistles patrolling making sure families can enjoy the holiday in peace.

While out on our Halloween evening ICE patrol, we noticed that Red Vault, an adult fashion/fetish/toy store, had a mannequin with an orange whistle around its neck in the store's front window. They also had a sign declaring ICE was not welcome and were giving away free whistles. I love this city.

Thanks to everyone who came to our office to donate blood and join the bone marrow registry this Halloween!
We gave away over 100 hot dogs, 15 pounds of candy, signed up 50 people for the bone marrow registry, and collected 28 units of blood —which is more blood than in three people’s bodies!
