Theatre kids are the best! COMMUNITY was my number one take away from my theatre days as well (and is my number one motivator behind telling folk and fairy tales).

This is why so many politicians, and too many journalists, feel the need to show that white people need these programs in order to show that the “right” people — the deserving — also need these programs. Yet in covering the opposition to food stamps, etc, they rarely mention how racialized it is.

Republicans understand that the best way to kill social programs is to paint their beneficiaries as Black, as support for these programs declines — even amongst white people who need them — when they think large numbers of Black people will benefit.
