I think this is what it gets down to.

Netflix is *THE STREAMER*, but the problem is that streaming is- essentially-dead.

Or at the very least, cannot grow past this point. It's reached market capacity. Everyone who could use the product has it. And it can't get any bigger.

The only thing I can think of that SORT OF makes sense ...*doesnt* make sense, because it sounds like "hopium" 😅 And it's that Netflix IS Netflix because they've been able to see around the corner on audience trends for about 20 years now; and maybe they're seeing something in their data churn...

One job that has definitely already been replaced by A.I. and it weirdly bums me out: Guys who owns a yellow Ferrari and charges crypto bros and scamfluencers to take a photo in front of it so they can pretend it’s their yellow Ferrari

One of the most powerful elements of THE ZONE OF INTEREST was the nameless girl sneaking out to hide bread for Auschwitz prisoners. Jonathan Glazer said he insisted on keeping it, because the movie needed some ray of hope, some counterpoint.

Kids like these are our ray of hope.

I've had my issues with the South Park guys, but I'll say this: I don't envy the anger I know I'd be experiencing being told to pull that episode, specifically, at the same moment a nation *ignores* a same-day shooting of children AT A SCHOOL THAT I MYSELF ATTENDED.

Yes, really.

One interesting thing about Superman (2025) is that because it doesn’t show the origin story for any of the characters, starts in the middle of the conflict, and jumps straight into fantastical things like kaiju and pocket dimensions, it’s the closest a comic book movie has come to this post

Yes, it was exactly this stupid after 9/11 but this is MORE STUPID because the key context of "after 9/11" is that *there had actually BEEN A 9/11"

Hello! I know it's a Friday afternoon so maybe this will get buried, 😅 but I'd love to talk to folks who spent a ton of time playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and then fell off.

This is for a story I'm working on for The Verge, so HMU if I could ask you a couple of questions for the story!

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will direct federal health agencies to explore potential new treatments for measles as the U.S. faces its largest outbreak in 25 years. Experts fear the decision could have grave consequences, as studies show the existing vaccine is 97% effective in preventing infection.
RFK Jr. Orders Search for New Measles Treatments Instead of Urging Vaccination
Decades of research have turned up no miracle treatment for measles, but studies show the M.M.R. shot is 97 percent effective in preventing the disease.

Donald Trump has committed the most profound, harmful and unnecessary economic error in the modern era. Almost everything he said—on history, economics and the technicalities of trade—was utterly deluded econ.st/3YbbFjq

A big reason why we’re here is Trump has long spoken like he honestly believes trade deficits are some sort of fee America pays and should retaliate against and most people in the media were like “he can’t actually mean that, that’s way too stupid” so they covered him like he meant something else.
I tried to simplify it to my kid like this: you buy something at the store for $50. Then Trump says that store stole $50 from you so he's going to tax the store $25. Store now charges $75.

We don't even have to think of this theoretically. Look at how much Trump policy was embraced (or, if you want to be generous, ignored) once Biden took office.
I hope people aren't expecting a notional future Dem administration to reverse most of this stuff. Google the 'ratchet effect'. Nine tenths of what the reactionary party does in power is accepted as the new baseline normal by the reformist party.
