I’m worried a lot of democrats view this as a risky political stance for the midterms and not an urgent deterrent that could save lives before then
51% of Americans believe ICE is making cities less safe, now is the time for Democrats to go out and tell people that they're right and here's how we'll eliminate ICE as a threat to you
New CNN polling:

Most Americans see an immigration officer’s fatal shooting of Renee Good as an inappropriate use of force. Roughly half view it as a sign of broader issues with the way ICE is operating, w/under 1/3 saying that ICE operations have made cities safer.

I’m far from the first to make this point but it really seems like everyone in this administration has pickled their souls in far right cruelty to such an extent that their basic perception of human decency has been profoundly distorted, which is leading to huge misreads of the public at large.
Seems to me this was likely provided to Alpha News as exculpatory evidence, but it seems to be having the opposite effect.
SHOCK CELL PHONE VIDEO: Renee Good's final words to her murderer: “That’s fine dude, I’m not mad at you.”

ICE agent Jonathan Ross after shooting and killing her seconds later: “Fuckin’ bitch.”

The evidence is increasingly pointing to the probability that an ICE agent killed a woman after misreading her as a threat because he was distracted by his simultaneous effort to record her so he could upload her image to a facial recognition database.
We've analysed this video of the shooting of Renee Nicole Good yesterday in Minneapolis frame-by-frame to highlight the positioning of the gun and phone in the ICE agent's hands.

The regime‘s line about this guy having been injured on duty before actually really undermines their defense imo. the prior incident of being dragged by a car- which sounds quite traumatic- makes it pretty plausible to me that this guy just panicked and shot a woman in the face without thinking

the high five was invented in the 70s which is sorta crazy to me. cause i bet you could go to any era of human history and get almost everyone on board with high fives overnight. you see one of these bad boys really connect and you want in. so basically nobody even did any by accident for millennia

By rejecting a nice mormon guy who only wanted to make sure people could again be denied health insurance due to preexisting conditions, America demonstrated it deserved Trump as president
“it was rude and unfair of Obama to run an actual campaign, so we had to respond by nominating the worst person alive” is truly one of the all time post genres

“Bad Romance” intensifies
Buttons are back. Knobs are back. Dumb devices are back. Own-it-forever software is back. Print is back. Personal websites and chronological feeds are back. Touching grass is back. People keep saying 2015, but it’s not far enough. The entire 2010s were a mistake. We must retvrn to… 2009.
Amazingly, reaction times using screens while driving are worse than being drunk or high—no wonder 90 percent of drivers hate using touchscreens in cars. Finally the auto industry is coming to its senses.

Real students read the abstract and conclusion and bullshit something off of that, not read literally none of it and go on a tangent about what they learned in Sunday school
Worth noting that the student admits that she just threw the thing together in 30 minutes without reading the paper she was supposed to be responding to.

In 30 years everyone is going to think that we were living like Emily in Paris
not that the present economic picture is rosy, but i do think that popular culture — and specifically nostalgia bait television — is a big part of the reason that our public memory of the 1970s, 1980s and even 1990s seems to miss the real economic pain that marked each of those decades.

This is but one example of the cost of electing someone so fundamentally amoral and dishonest. Because this is true! These files should be handled with care and sensitivity to the victims’s privacy. But no one can trust that that is what is going on here because of how little credibility they have.
Blanche on Epstein files: "Today is the 30 days. I expect we're going to release several hundred thousand documents today, including photographs...now, the most important thing is we protect victims. We are looking at every single piece of paper making sure that every victim is completely protected"

Imo what really killed Twitter was not the changing of content moderation or the boosting of right wingers (although this didn’t help) - it’s that the changing of the blue check system really deteriorated the user experience and thus the discourse in a way that it just has never come back from
I don’t really believe this, but it’s a closer call than user numbers would suggest. The other thing is, persuasion and influence happens when people INTERACT, and Twitter now is largely like TikTok: a streaming of algorithmic posts designed to make you smash the like button. Zero discourse.

My theory about the post pandemic economy is that it turbo charged Temu-style commerce, social media conspicuous consumption, and so honed surveillance capitalism that everyone is feeling a basically constant pressure to buy shit they don’t need all the time and that is driving affordability woes
The fact that the public *overwhelmingly* wants the actual price level to fall, and for prices to go down across the board is important info about public opinion, but also more than a little tricky to try to implement!
