The Dems caved for two reasons. The election of Mamdani and Trump talking about ending the filibuster. Schumer et al saw the terrifying convergence of a) their base moving left and b) the prospect of their great alibi for inaction vanishing. The Dems exist to serve US imperialism and capitalism.

Waking up to the news that Donald Trump pardoned Rudy Giuliani, John Eastman, Mark Meadows, Sydney Powell, and dozens of people who tried to steal the 2020 election is really just the icing on the cake of yesterday, isn’t it?

Enablers everywhere, including on the Dem side of the senate.

it's absolutely critical to understand in this moment that people aren't largely reacting to who Charlie Kirk was as a person, but who they knew him as because of what tiny pieces of him got clipped out and stuck in their newsfeeds.
reposting with alt text because this feels incredibly significant. the right-wing disinfo machine means a lot of the people grieving Charlie Kirk never heard any of the things he said that would have tarnished his brand as Guy Who Just Wants to Have Dialogue Across the Aisle

Y'know that Guardian article which cited an anonymous friend of Tyler Robinson claiming he was the only "leftist" in his family?

It just got updated after the "verified source" decided he couldn't remember his "relationship" with the accused shooter well enough to be quoted

The chances that Kirk’s assassin is a groyper are very very high and continue growing.
the suspected Charlie Kirk shooter has been identified as 22 year old Tyler Robinson from Utah

very little in his family socials other than that Tyler was very online and dressed up on Halloween specifically to emulate this meme

we passed this point long ago. the Christchurch shooter murdered more than 50 people for the memes. if you don't realize that was part of the point for him you don't understand this stuff.
The prospect of large scale violence committed, more or less, for the memes, is terrifying. And if we're not there already, we are rapidly speeding towards it.
If this was straightforward internecine conflict of fash-on-fash violence, that would be a difficult concept to swallow for most people.

But the idea that young disturbed men are using "normal" political categories as accoutrements to their abyssal anti-logic... where do you even fucking start?

Charlie Kirk spent his life‘s work and all of his energy and time targeting out-groups while arguing for a world in which gun massacres would be easy to enact, plentiful, and inevitable, and he became famous and wealthy doing it, and we’re now not supposed to mention that because it’s not polite.

Unfortunately, Bluesky is unavailable in Mississippi right now, due to a new state law that requires age verification for all users.

While intended for child safety, we think this law poses broader challenges & creates significant barriers that limit free speech & harm smaller platforms like ours.
