They bring Zelensky to the Oval Office for what? To mock and denigrate a truly courageous leader & try to bring him down to their base level?

That’s a good point. We tend to think that things used to be “normal” when in fact we have plenty of evidence of irrational, abnormal episodes in our history. Religious cults, Prohibition, crazy money/gold/finance scares - to name a few.
One of the core beliefs I've adopted in the last few years is that we generally underrate how goofy and stupid the American past was and that being attentive to that helps us see continuities with the present. It's actually not obvious we live in dumber times. Every day tests this belief anew.
