During the elections Nawrocki told his country they’d be better off cosying up to Trump rather than building alliances with their neighbours in the EU.

That’s going well I see
Poland's President is NOT amused by Trump's latest about-face on the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Not a peace plan: but a corrupt deal in the tradition of Ribbentrop-Molotov and Yalta.

The definitive piece on this proposal.
This is not a peace plan. It is a proposal that weakens Ukraine and divides America from Europe, preparing the way for a larger war in the future. In the meantime, it benefits unnamed Russian and American investors, at the expense of everyone else.

Trump Has a Recipe for War and Corruption, Not Peace
Who would benefit from the White House’s 28-point proposal for Ukraine?

Heh. But 1991 borders - they need to get out of Trandsnistria.

A fully equivalent plan would also have:

- Free and fair elections for national and regional government in Russia
- Lustration for security services personnel
- Natural resources income in a fund administered by Norway

It seems now that this latest “peace plan” may even have been originally written in Russian.

So you know what to do…

Isambard Kitten Brunel sounds like it was named by Gillian Peele. Is that right?
I reckon you can learn a lot about the atmosphere in various Oxford colleges by looking at what they choose to name their cats (courtesy of @oxfordclarion.bsky.social ). We should all aspire to the energy of a Teabag, Isambard Kitten Brunel, or an Admiral Flapjack

Question for Ukrainian speakers - when Zelensky said Ukraine faces a choice between dignity and an important partner, should this be taken as an allusion to the Revolution of Dignity?

Evergreen
(I have read the government's consultation paper carefully. Nowhere does it answer this very simple question -what is this policy supposed to achieve?)

Something for the Nordic and Baltic states to signal to Russia that Europe isn’t backing down

They could start exploring this option…

Astute
Trump’s problem is that while he may truly want to end this war, and the cost to Ukraine is probably pretty irrelevant to him, Russia clearly does not want the war to end. Trump may think that he’s working with Putin, but Putin isn’t working with him.

Some notable things in what's being called the "Trump peace plan" but which could not have been more clearly written in Moscow if it came with a 2 for 1 deal on tickets to the Bolshoi Ballet. 🧵

Agree. Coalition of the Willing has to stop deluding itself that after a ceasefire on reasonable terms it will send symbolic forces to Ukraine w US backing. UK, France, Germany, Poland &c must invest whatever it takes to defeat RU in UA, or they will have to fight it, without US help, further West.
It’s not a “US plan”, it’s Moscow’s plan, dictated to guilty men in the White House. Setting aside the injustices being pushed on Ukraine, this would be a disaster for European security & guarantee a war with 🇷🇺 in a few years, in which, presumably, 🇺🇸 and 🇷🇺 are on the same side.

This is not a peace plan. It’s a list of Russian war aims.
Future historians might want to reconstruct when NATO ceased to exist IN ITS TRANSATLANTIC FORM.
Here’s a hint. Look at this passage of the Ukraine „peace plan“. The US will act as a „mediator“ between NATO and Russia.
As if they were no longer the lead nation.

This forced capitulation would be a mortal threat to European security. We can’t allow it to be imposed, not least by a hugely unpopular American president against a country fighting heroically for its life.
Breaking news: Ukraine is coming under intense pressure to accept a sweeping peace plan drawn up by the Trump administration with Moscow’s input to end Russia’s war in the country, according to Ukrainian officials. on.ft.com/3K0onha

This is a good way of putting Russian military failure in Ukraine
-- Russia has lost this war multiple times. The problem is that Putin knows his tenure on this planet comes to an end with this war's resolution. And unfortunately, broader Russian politics won't move quickly. But the pain the excess spending (and its opportunity costs within the Russian economy) --
