Chumbawamba’s “Tubthumping” turns 28 today.

The song “didn’t belong to an elite group of musicians,” said Boff Whalley. “It belonged to people. People at football matches, people singing along — people at parties drinking too much whiskey and tripping over the kitchen chairs. People like me.”

Bluesky made it so difficult to get in that I got disgusted and gave up. But now I'm back, with news of my new book. It's about the power of preaching, and it's called *By The Word Worked*--a takeoff on the doctrine of "Ex opere operandi," by the work worked (as in baptism and the eucharist)

1/ Yesterday was the first Advent Sunday of this year. The theme of the first Sunday, as it is every year, is hope. The first day of Advent reminds us that we no longer have to echo Habakkuk's cry of "How long, Lord, must I call for help ..." because hope now points to the coming nativity.
