I've barfed in the Kennedy Center, on the BART, and while driving 55mph on 81N through Pennsylvania. Thanks, migraine.
I’m not sure about "exotic" but: CEO of the bookstore showed us a dark-bright-dark-bright slide-show in a movie theatre (her husband owned the chain); I had a migraine that went from 0 to 60 too fast to react from it, and barely made it to the trash can outside the theatre as soon as she was done.
what's the most exotic place you've ever puked? mine's not exactly exotic but i did once have a hangover at the nyc facebook office and barfed in their very nice bathroom

I think November might not actually exist in any real temporal reality. Like, 11/15? No. It was October 31 yesterday and tomorrow is December 1. That's how this works.

Jim Ryan wrote a letter to UVA detailing his "resignation" and I'm gonna get some fresh tea before I read it because I feel pretty certain I'm gonna be filled with righteous anger by the end

I'll do a thread but here's the full letter provided by the chronicle

I fear that as management turns increasingly to AI to write their emails and their reports, work that can be done poorly in automation, they will think all work can be treated this way, and they will lose whatever critical capacities they once possessed when they had to draft their own emails

With 🇺🇸 Thanksgiving being 3 weeks away and SNAP being a shit show—but with some retailers and nonprofits offering turkeys for low or no cost—I'd love to get my free cookbook #AfterTheFeast to as many folks as possible.

Would you kindly share it here and elsewhere? 🙏 ivacheung.com/2025/09/afte...

After a couple decades of editing and indexing cookbooks, I took a stab at writing (a small!) one. After the Feast brings together 25-ish of my favourite ways to use up the leftovers from big turkey d...

nowadays every app wants to be a platform, and platform logic requires that they become the *only* platform.

that's why they all start as Specific: The Tool That Does A Thing and five years later announce they're rebranding as Totalizr: We Manage Your Life

🎃 Some lessons from Hallowe’en: 👻

Little kids should be able to walk in the streets, even at night, without worrying about cars.

People who are well-off are expected to give out more candy.

Candy is for anyone who asks — no means-testing.

Whatever else we are, we are each other’s neighbors.

Not seeing much on Bluesky vs Twitter but St. Elizabeth parish in Jamaica is devastated after Hurricane Melissa made landfall there yesterday.

This is the government’s official support site, which is quite well organized.
#Jamaica needs our support more than ever right now and, never ones to shy away from self-reliance, they’ve set up an officially sanctioned website for recovery donations. The footage of Hurricane Melissa’s destruction in St. Elizabeth coming in from my family is HARROWING.

women are about 78% of the healthcare workforce in america. i know people know this but it’s always worthwhile to state it outright. not only is it gendered to underpay healthcare workers but men who get “caught up” in it are undervalued for doing female-coded work. same with teachers.
It will never not bother me how often when you’re talking to someone — in life, for work, w/e — who is struggling that that person works in healthcare. Nurses, orderlies, home health aids, people who draw blood, etc

Tried to move away from Gmail and use more privacy-oriented email services instead but now I have four email accounts with multiple aliases and everything I actually want to receive gets stuck in the spam filters. My Gmail's running out of space, 15 years of data to sort through.
I counted up the number of ways (platforms, accounts, apps) that people in my professional and personal lives plus healthcare systems and kid’s school are contacting me and uhh. This is objectively impossible.

Public health is like cake. Cake has layers. Public health has layers. And when we stack the layers of public health – think combining sanitation + nutrition + medical treatments + vaccines + addressing social & environmental factors that impact health – we get to enjoy more birthday cakes.
