Hi! I’m a tall queer guy who writes (mostly) shorter queer things, though novels keep happening somehow. Mostly I tell tales that exist somewhere in the Venn of spec-fic, romance, and YA, but always queer.

I’m a huge fan of chosen families and insistent queer history.

I know it's really about control, but the way these evil monsters talk about banning books to save the children out of one side of their mouths, and downplay an actual pedophile out of the other is rage inducing

The comments on my Voyager fanfic routinely make me smile, but this one made me laugh out loud.

I have a recurring thread involving Relativity, meaning Ducane and the rest, that started in my version of "Flashback" but the order in which Relativity is experiencing it vs. Voyager is… well.

Oh *now* he has a health scare? AFTER the vote? Not before, when it could have made a difference if he wasn’t there?

People wonder why I don’t believe in higher powers who give a crap about us.

Started working on what might be this year’s holiday retelling. I don’t know if it’ll be the one, but it flowed and I enjoyed writing the banter and that’s always a great feeling when it happens.

A while back at a dinner someone there was all, "It’s so cheap to go to the US right now, so we’re doing that," and I was aghast—literally the easiest thing to do right now to show solidarity (y’know, against the fascism) is *not* go there if you usually do—but I'm glad to see they were outliers.

The culture around hockey in Canada is a radioactive swamp, despite the weird platform we put it on.

(Ok that image didn't work but)

Perhaps one day we'll do something about it.

Don’t cross picket lines.
As of this morning, Starbucks workers across the country are officially ON STRIKE. And we're prepared for this to become the biggest and longest ULP strike in Starbucks history.

Say #NoContractNoCoffee with us: DON'T BUY STARBUCKS for the duration of our open-ended ULP strike! $SBUX

Have so many new books, but keep wanting to re-read because then I *know* what’s going to happen.

This mood resurfaces every year around this time, and I used to think it was because of retail heading into Christmas, having zero mental energy left every day, but maybe it’s just because dark?

Wow. Just… wow.

Yeah, not even going to *try* with that nonsense.
On August 12, 1971, 16-year-old me mailed the first story I ever wrote off on its first submission to my dream market, F&SF. My tale was quickly rejected. On July 17th, 2025, I finally sold a story to that magazine. Here's why I felt I had to withdraw that story. www.scottedelman.com/wordpress/20...

Just *once* I’d love if Steam suggested a new game to me that, y’know, I could actually play.

It’s *so good* at telling me to try games... that only run on Windows.

Just cuz I suspect it's gonna be relevant: "underage women" is a contradiction in terms. There are adults and there are minors, who are children. Ditto "nonconsensual sex." That's rape. The only reason to play semantic games is because you benefit from obscuring the simplicity of these terms.

November isn’t too early to start talking about queer holiday romance, is it? Fifteen-holidays, chosen-family, will-they-won’t-they novella, complete with hunky mermaid ornaments?

I’ve got a few, but I totally want to rep the "capers, romances, and fun" crowd by pointing out reading @robbyrnes.bsky.social's "The Night We Met" changed my life in multiple ways: one, it was the first truly *fun* queer book I ever read (which I don’t think I’d known existed as an option).
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

We’ve been rewatching Stranger Things, and just got to the S3 episode where Robin comes out to Steve and OMG I’d forgotten how lovely it is.

It’s 100% the perfect reaction from him. Oh. I liked her; then an immediate left turn to supportive friend who *has not at all been slighted*.

All my indie titles are in Kobo Plus, that includes Handmade Holidays, In Memoriam, Rear Admiral, and Upon the Midnight Queer—and the audiobooks thereof.
Kobo is doing a 30 day free trial promotion for their Kindle Unlimited competitor service Kobo Plus for new subscribers (not sure if this is US only), if you like queer indie books, small press SFF, and backlist SFF from large publishers there's a lot to choose from on this service that's not on KU!
