Part of America’s greatness is that through our struggles and successes, we've always been a montage of cultures, classes and peoples. In my new column, I write about how we see that on display today—from Bad Bunny's performance to the diversity of our public schools.

ICE is disrupting learning and putting our educators on the frontlines of immigration enforcement. Schools must be safe and welcoming places. We must restore sensitive locations protections.

This small school district kept losing students to ICE. So it mobilized.
Outside of Minneapolis, the five schools in Columbia Heights have taken an aggressive approach to protecting the immigrant families of their students.

I spent time last Sunday handing out free books in the Bronx—a passion project for the AFT. The joy and vibrant diversity I saw gave me a feeling of hope—summed up well by Bad Bunny in his performance later that night: "Together, we are America.” www.aft.org/column/toget...

In my new column, I write about how America's public schools help young people value diversity and bridge differences. When the administration tried to take a hatchet to 60 years of civil rights laws that helped create educational opportunity for all, AFT sued—and won.

Instead of making degrading remarks, trying to restrict civil rights and raging against a joyful halftime show, Trump should be focused on what the country needs him to do—make life better and more affordable for all Americans. Read my new column ⤵️

On the 8th anniversary of the horrific Parkland school shooting, we remember the 17 innocent lives lost. We must keep up the fight to make schools safe for our students and educators and take real action against gun violence in our communities.

Eight years ago, lives were forever shattered when a gunman entered Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and killed 17 students and educators, wounding many more. We remember. We were told our pain, grief, and anger would fade with time.

Tom Pappas-rest in power

Tom was the @UFT ‘s staff director for as long as i can remember; he was an advisor, a mentor & the backbone of the UFT

He was honest, direct, kind & tough as nails.

His memory is a blessing to us all, and those if us who got to work with him, are blessed by it.
