Always in pain, always grumpy. Late thirty-something year old parent, artist, organizer, just trying get through the day. Lover of fiber art, perfume, shrimps, and gardening, hater of giant cars and too bright LED headlights. they/them
I know this is just one thing out of a sea of attacks on trans rights but…I fucking hate this. I hate the world as it exists right now for trans kids, for trans girls who deserve to bond and create friendships and have life experiences with other girls.
i hope every single person who still buys harry potter merch or engages with that franchise is happy that they're literally making girl guides cry

girl guides uk have been forced very much against their will to exclude trans girls. full statement is here: www.girlguiding.org.uk/information-...

Waldorf themed kid crafts are sooo cute but the philosophy behind it all…eesh.

We need to be able to see that the line "accommodations have gone too far" is an expression of the ableist notion that disabled students do not belong in higher ed. Its fundamentally an anxiety about the fact that disabled students get an "advantage" over abled students.

tbh. every single nation-state project on the planet has declared war on its women, queer, trans people under the banner of "fraternity", so all must eventually be swept into the dustbin of history. there is no nationalist state project that is not inherently patriarchal.

Right now I'm doing this big writing project on rare species in Florida and thinking about how much they might suffer because of this AI grift, especially the poor freshwater crustaceans, already loved by almost no one, now trapped under Orlando during a water crisis. I hope they get to live.

#Nosevember Prompt #21 is Familiar. In my last sample order Pineward put an extra sample of “Old Toby,” a fragrance I don’t think they’ve released yet. When I first tried it I couldn’t help but ask “who are you?” A heady white flower- maybe nicotania? that I’ve smelled on an older woman in my past.

Trying to write a lot of thoughts about "female husbands" (both the book by Jen Manion and the people themselves) but the pretend story that no one perceived as a woman was ever punished for crossing gendered lines coupled with how violently these men & adjacent ppl were *gleefully* punished

#Nosevember Prompt #20 is Color. A long time ago one of my aunts went to France and one of the treats she brought back were violet candies. They were a pastel purple and tasted very sweet and perfume-y. “Duende” captures that scent and taste and if it had a color it would be that same chalky purple.

#Nosevember Prompt #19 is Smooth. This prompt was a head scratcher for me; a few scents I reached for at first gave “fuzzy” when I sat with them. “Velvet Circuit” on the other hand, is smooth and shiny in a vinyl pants sort of way, slick like an over application of lipgloss.

Think about all the evil assholes in this administration.

They *all* expect to die of old age, obscenely wealthy, surrounded by family, because that is how the US has allowed *every single previous evil asshole* to live after doing their atrocities.

They learned they will never be punished.

I very highly recommend picking up weaving or spinning as a hobby. Learning by hand the amount of labor that used to be required to create simple things like rope, ribbon and fabric, that we buy for pennies now, is astounding.

Hot pumpkin pie take: the “Libby’s New Fashioned Pumpkin Pie” is superior to the “Libby’s Famous Pumpkin Pie” recipe because the former is essentially a pumpkin flan recipe.

Also, add a few tablespoons of molasses for extra oomph.

I come from working-class folk. I work a rotating set of freelance jobs, writing books among them. 75+ hour weeks, send myself on book tours on my own struggling dime, arrange all care for non-driving disabled partner & if I were to calculate my hourly wage I'd have to call a labor union on myself.
Honestly, people calling creators the "petite bourgeoisie" makes me want to snap.

We're working folk. And we work really hard. For next to nothing.

We're not lounging around eating bonbons. We're trying to figure out how we're going to be able to pay rent next month.

#Nosevember Prompt #18 is Hate. I like a lot of Nemat oils; they’re a great way to add that missing something to a fragrance. But Vanilla Musk? Hate. On my skin it’s the smell of a pack of baby wipes that’s been sitting in the diaper bag you brought to the playground on a sunny day.

Anyone else struggle with being an aquarium hobbyist and also having a growing personal library? I have a lot of books and bookshelves and probably need to get another tall one but I *also* really want to start a shrimp-only tank (okay maybe some rasboras in there too).

Some fish stores are having Black Friday sales but I’m being very responsible right now and NOT impulse buying anything. Mostly because I don’t have another established tank up and running.

Please hear me when I say that

1) these anti-medical woo birth movements have been a primary feeder into anti-vaxx eugenic movements

2) they pre-date the age of social media

3) they exist because we have not addressed medical sexism and specifically obstetric violence

I don’t know what the policy move is here, but we need to fucking do better on treating pregnant people like people

part of the price for not doing so is, some of them will join weird cults

#Nosevember prompt #17 is Love. There was a moment in my life, sometime in my early twenties, when I found a scent combo that was as close as I ever got to a “signature.” I’d layer “Stella” from Stella McCartney, a rose amber, with Violet/Leather from OLO, a crisp leather and crushed violet.
