Always in pain, always grumpy. Late thirty-something year old parent, artist, organizer, just trying get through the day. Lover of fiber art, perfume, shrimps, and gardening, hater of giant cars and too bright LED headlights. they/them
#Nosevember prompt #17 is Love. There was a moment in my life, sometime in my early twenties, when I found a scent combo that was as close as I ever got to a “signature.” I’d layer “Stella” from Stella McCartney, a rose amber, with Violet/Leather from OLO, a crisp leather and crushed violet.

#Nosevember prompt #16 is Outside. Fanghorn II from Pineward smells like heading to a nearby church lot during December to pick out a Christmas tree. The crushed pine needles, piles of trees oozing resinous sap, the dampness of it all.

#Nosevember prompt #15: Creative. After some deliberation I decided that this prompt best fit an atmospheric scent. Inspired by a demon from the lesser key of Solomon that appears as a dragon, Fantôme’s “Bune” evokes something green and reptilian lurking in a damp cave. You can even smell the stone.

#Nosevember prompt #14 is Sad. I really wanted to like Delizia Di Marshmallow from Kyse Perfumes. Marshmallow is one of my fave gourmand notes and I’m admittedly a bit picky about it, but I read so many reviews claiming this as the ULTIMATE marshmallow. Burnt plastic on my skin though!

#Nosevember prompt #13 is Happy. Follow me long enough and you might become aware I am a sample goblin. I love the dopamine rush that comes from smelling something new, rediscovering memories, musing over what works and what doesn’t. My last batch of samples from Pineward really scratched that itch.

#Nosevember prompt #12 is Flavor. Today I had pho as a late lunch/early dinner treat. One of my favourite parts of this dish is all the aromatics I get to customize my pho with. The lime, cilantro, a generous helping of Thai basil; combined with the broth aromatics it’s a delight to the senses.

#Nosevember prompt #11 is Change. I used to be a (perfume) vanilla hater. It’s a note I pick up right away and I feel like it can turn an otherwise interesting perfume a little boring. “Nostalgia” turned me around, though. It’s cheap fruity scented lipgloss, plastic doll, and vanilla.

How it feels to see everyone else in Georgia posting their aurora photos (seeing one fully has been on my bucket list forever)

#Nosevember prompt #10 is Admire. My mom’s signature perfume has been Opium for as long as I can remember. She was distraught the day she repurchased a bottle and found the juice to be only a shadow of its former self. As a child the smell made me nauseous but as an adult I appreciate its boldness.

#Nosevember prompt #9 is routine. I’m not a signature scent kind of person but at night I’ll wear the same comforting scent over and over again. For a while it has been “Ectoplasm” from Fantôme. This smells like freshly crushed greenery, powdery marshmallow and dry soil to me.

#Nosevember Prompt #8 is Alone. Alone is my favourite time to wear fragrances, especially when I’m testing a new scent. My spouse is a bit scent-sensitive, so every now and then when I’m alone for a while I wear Robert Piguet’s Fracas. It’s a loud, lush, tuberose that can fill a room.

#Nosevember prompt #7: Friend. Darling Clandestine is one of the first indie perfume houses I tried and really enjoyed. The creator, Evonne, is a lovely human and I’m glad she still creates some OG DC scents. “Carny Wedding” is one of my faves and is smoky and sweet; reminds me of autumn nights.

#Nosevember prompt #6 Dark: “Howl” by Possets. Opens with a vintage feeling chypre quality and grows darker and stickier. A syrupy quality to the black musk and patchouli and opium. This is a dark, sweet, slightly dirty perfume. Perfect for the shorter colder autumn days.

#Nosevember prompt #5 is Bright. “Saffron” from Scent Trunk, created by Shabnam Tavakol, is if bright yellow were a fragrance. Opens a bit cold and lactonic, like a like a metal scoop freezing over when it first hits ice cream. Then it’s a very fuzzy, loud, sweet saffron.

#Nosevember prompt #4 is Energy. Tiger Balm (the red one) has a distinct spicy and tingly aroma. I keep backups of these little jars on hand because I don’t want to run out unexpectedly. The smell of salves and liniments are what I once associated with my abuelos but now they keep me on my feet.

#Nosevember prompt #3 is Courage. And for some reason I’m called to post this (intentionally) vile little perfume, Abject Fear by Amorphous. I have to be up for a challenge to sniff this one. A very intense wet rusting metal. Sharp. Like the smell of hospital, of being awake during surgery.

#Nosevember prompt #2 is Lore. Decided to feature my fave from this spring and summer, “Nosferatu” from Heretic. Love myself some vampire lore. This is a melancholic floral, a bit rainy and wilted in the background.

For #Nosevember prompt #1 First, I chose “Royal Violets” from Augustín Reyes, also known as “the smell of Cuban babies”. The first fragrance I was drenched in. It opens very alcoholic and astringent but then softens into a powdery dry violet.

Anyone on #perfumesky #fragrancesky participating in #nosevember? It’s put together by Lucy aka @smell.the.artwork on instagram but I don’t really post much there so I plan to do it here!
