And I don’t even think there was like, social media pressure or protests outside of Cracker Barrel? There was no “mob” demanding they change the logo. Any change at all just gets labeled “woke” and they rage against the simple fact that the world is different from when they were 8. It’s exhausting.

Libs’ commitment to “the power of joy” and that sort of “it’s ok for adults to read YA” attitude and right wingers adolescent fixation of saying slurs and seeing video game tits are different symptoms of the same condition. We live in such a deeply infantilized culture.
“Hank, why are you spending so much time defending the freaking /minecraft movie?/“

Actually, I’m not defending anything, I am attacking the practice of dumping buckets of jaded misery on moments of goofy joy and I will absolutely die on that hill.

They also make completely standard stock moves for ultra high net worth investors with a risk-on attitude! Leveraging heavily into Nvidia over the past few years does not require insider knowledge!
Hard agree - a very popular normie blackpill has been "Pelosi's rich because she does insider trading." (She's rich because her husband's rich!)
I mean literally the first thing I hear when I talk to politically engaged people who dislike the both is that “they all do insider trading & make money for themselves first, they don’t care about us”

So I feel like someone who takes the tack of aggressively pursuing white collar crime has a place

They also seem to envision the return of American manufacturing as some lunch pails and punch cards 1950s version of factory work. That ain’t gonna happen. The only way to make US labor competitive is by crushing the working class. It’s gonna be the amazon warehouse model meets the assembly line.
I do not understand why you would fantasize a future where your child works with its hands instead of having a computer job. A computer job is undeniably a better outcome, it’s why people jump through all kinds of hoops to have a computer job.

It wasn’t touted for its “civility.” It was touted for not being owned by a psycho and infested with Nazis. Shut the fuck up or leave.
Yes, for sure - twitter and here. But here if you depart from a specific set of talking points it's very hostile immediately, whereas Twitter had more strands of the left. Also I just think it's so funny that blue sky was touted in part as a platform for civility.

Sorry, but is this not exactly what Bernie said in those remarks that pissed everyone off (for reasons I still don't fully understand)?
It's extremely infuriating to see Democrats, even and especially Bernie, fuck up about undocumented people and I think part of it is that it is very difficult to admit that like 15% of economic activity in this country is based on exploiting undocumented people and has been for decades

I resent the satisfaction this makes me feel. I hate that the stupid gamergate anti-woke folk have made everything into a culture war. I hate feeling like I'm "on the side" of a truly vile company like Ubisoft. It's exhausting and moronic, but a win's a win, I guess.

I feel so bad for Rachel Zegler. She's so charming and a capable actress, but she just keeps getting dragged into these projects that are either shitty or controversial (or in Snow White's case, both).

You think this is bad, wait until it somehow becomes a crossover with Watchmen. "The Dr. Manhattan Who Laughs" is an actual thing that DC Comics did.
I skipped this whole era of Batman comics but whooooo this might be among the worst Batman stories ever told (THE BATMAN WHO LAUGHS, 2018)

So much of our current culture war nonsense could have been avoided if nerds had developed a sense of personal taste. Learn how to interact with something, recognize that it’s not for you, and move along. Don’t scream that it’s bad and then get offended by its existence.
Video gaming's golden rule oughta be, "Even if it's not for me, it might still be of interest to thee."

Even the very worst games ever made still have an audience that loves them despite their flaws.

Tearing things down is easy; sharing why they're interesting takes insight.

Every dem in congress boycotts and holds a town hall meeting in their district. Invite fired federal workers to speak about the jobs they did and the damage Musk, DOGE, Trump and the whole GOP are doing, and underline how terrified the republicans are to hold town halls.
If you were in Congress, what would you do for the State of the Union? What do you think Dems should do?

Ok but like, if someone could fill in that blank with something that would actually have an impact, that’d be great.
“And therefore, we will _____.”
A statement from a spokesperson for The New York Times on White House press coverage:
February 26, 2025 at 1:18 AM
Wow, if only there were a way to harness that revulsion and target it against republicans, instead of going on cable news to whine about how powerless you are.
February 23, 2025 at 11:08 PM
The shareholders of Tesla and SpaceX should demand the same of Musk. Elon would have us believe he's running multiple companies, reshaping the entire federal government, raising a dozen children, and dumping enough hours into video games to be the best in the world. He's an absolute fraud.
Elon, I hate to break it to you but you aren’t my boss. I answer to the people of Minnesota.

But since you bring it up, I spent last week fighting to stop tax breaks for billionaires like you, paid for by defunding health care for moms and babies

That's just what's gonna happen when you try to substitute focus-tested committee-speak for having actual values.
Everyone is wrong about why Dem "messaging" sucks. It's not that it's not "simple" enough, or that it's not focused enough on this or that. It's that they are not engaging in the politics of the day. They're floating above it. They don't respond to things, and when they do respond, it's boilerplate.
February 14, 2025 at 7:38 PM
A big hurdle to dems adopting a more "off the cuff, from the heart" approach is that huge swathes of them fundamentally don't believe in anything. It's not "message discipline," it's that they literally don't have a sense of politics that exists beyond vague platitudes and focus groups.
What idiotic Democratic electeds do not grasp is that you do not capture attention with calm, inside-voice claims or strict message discipline. Both those things make you BORING and easy to ignore, especially in a fragmented media ecosystem

The path forward for new #RHONY is staring Bravo in the face. Cut Brynn and the scientologist, knock Jenna and Ubah down to friend of, and then...add Lindsay Hubbard and Paige Sargent. Neither of them really make sense on Summer House anymore, they have pre-existing beef, make it happen Andy.

I get the impulse to be into this idea, but I feel like watching Erin Lichy and Julia Fox interact would somehow make me like both of them less.
"I would do it for a season and see how it goes. I just want to shake it up a little bit. You heard it here first." - Julia Fox on WWHL about potentially joining #RHONY in the future... get her a contract NOW!

"Socialist AOC and billionaire Mark Cuban are the perfect combo for dem messaging" sort of gets heart of the matter. It's fundamentally untenable. The dems can only win if they appear to stand for something, which they can only achieve, unfortunately, by actually standing for something.
“Show personality” is a low bar. My two choices are Mark Cuban and AOC. Both can draw national attention. Cuban is the younger, smarter, better-looking, liberal version of Trump - TV star and actual billionaire. AOC will say “fuck yeah I’m a socialist and if you want real change you should be too.”

ME: 1 billion pineapples, please.

ME: what do you sell?

BG: we don’t sell anything

BG: we have burritos and cards and flamingos.

ME: can I buy a flamingo

BG: no.

Democrats will contort themselves into a million unappealing shapes, trying to guess at what an imaginary voter would want them to be, rather than just fucking standing for something and then working to convince voters they’re correct.
what sucks most about this "democrats who wanna be open to vaccine skeptics" thing is it's such transparent "we need more votes. what if we open up the tent to these morons who don't know their right hand from their left." bitch those people will still not vote for you. write them off

I feel like the fraud also extends to the level of "pretending you lost your life savings on the hawk tuah memecoin" though, and a lot of people seem to not be clocking that.
I don’t mean to be callous, but we are living in an era of prolific fraud and corruption and if you’re falling for the Hawk Tuah memecoin fraud you cannot be saved, you are beyond the reach of society.
I am a huge fan of Hawk Tuah but you took my life savings.
