It’s not even a question of enjoying it. It’s the willingness to “die on the hill” of the notion that just because something brings joy, it is therefore valuable. I think that’s a strain of thought that is responsible for a lot of…our current predicament.

in a row and then hoping the fourth will somehow be different just doesn't seem like a viable solution.

it's even more important to be strategic in how you handle them. You thinking that financial advisors are only for the 1% seems out of touch to me, but even if someone is truly destitute, you can find pro bono planning or even just try to educate yourself. But doing the same thing three times...

It's not denigrating, it's genuine advice. Talk to someone who can explain that setting up an emergency fund before (or alongside) funding your 401k will give you access to money without having to pay the massive penalties and taxes that come with a 401k withdrawal. If you have limited resources...

Yes, you are absolutely right. Financially vulnerable people exist and advice can only do so much. "So therefore, do nothing" does not seem like a great response to those facts.

Ok, is that *your* situation, or are you just attempting to defend your idea of a person living in poverty from the scourge of financial advice?

when confronted with our broken society's many indignities, you can attempt to navigate that system as best you can, or you can complain about it online. Most people would be better served by the former than the latter.

I suppose. Although children of privilege have been some of the most financially illiterate people on the planet, in my experience. Not really sure what your point about the past has to do with anything, other than examples of life being hard. Which, sure, especially for millennials, but...

Probably not! Considering that financial advice is getting even more cheap and accessible, I will actually be more correct in the future. You can absolutely find a model-based advisory service with no minimum and a low AUM fee. Or you can keep insisting on your own helplessness. Whatever works.

Correct.
April 4, 2025 at 2:31 PM
Why do you think working with an advisor is some sort of luxury good?
April 4, 2025 at 2:22 PM
All the more reason to work with an advisor.

I honestly think this whole thing is about punishing the working class. It genuinely bothers conservatives that poor people have big screen tvs and iPhones.

You’ve watched your 401k hit ZERO? Are you taking the money out because the market is falling, or…? I don’t want to rub salt in the wound, but you really might want to see a financial advisor. That shouldn’t be happening, even during recessions.

With that same hair!😫

So you’re telling me I can firebomb a dealership AND avoid firebombing myself on one of his rockets? Sounds like a pretty sweet deal.

Season 2 is even darker! Like, “kinda surprised they aired this” levels of darkness.
