This is way too cool not to share! Just won a round in Unreal Tournament via my browser, and it took all of a few seconds to get in-game and playing!
Quake, Unreal, Half-Life, it's my '90s, all over again! Who's up for a long-distance LAN party?
Unreal Tournament can now be played IN A BROWSER

Along with other late 90s PC FPS classics but yeah. UT99 in a browser window... just fantastic. Thanks to the r/LGR subreddit for letting me know about it!

Xain’D Sleena (a.k.a Solar Warrior and Soldier of Light) may have a weird title, but it's a fun run and gun game with a cool outer space backdrop. You also get to bomb bases and run away!

It's from Technos Japan, and the arcade version is of course the one to try.

The Classic Arcade and Console Era (1972-1989) - Xain’D Sleena (a.k.a Solar Warrior and Soldier of Light)
I have no idea what the title means either, but this game is an intriguing outer space run and gun platformer brimming with wild ideas.

Need a goofy video game song? Here's a wonderful tune from Power Instinct Matrimelee's incredible OST -

Given that we don't know exactly how many Steam Decks have been sold (and it's probably only 4-6 million over three years), I don't think the Steam Machine's impact will be easy to understand.

It will probably be most popular among gaming enthusiasts, not average gamers.

Signal boosting a need!
In October I got notice to move very last minute, made a mutual aid post and it didn't meet the goal. But the need didn't go away. The goal is 245/1000 reposts appreciated. Thanks to everyone boosting and helping so far 🙏🏿

Need some 1980s arcade and console puzzlers to play? I made a pretty good list of the essentials and the games I didn't cover, but you might want to try!

Admittedly, it's a list with a lot of misfit titles, but that's sort of how that genre worked before Tetris caught on in the late 80s!

I've got a busy day ahead, so why charge up to a song with lyrics straight out of Beowulf, The Illiad, the Ramayana and the Mayan Popol Vuh?

Guess which hot take I agree with 100%?

I rolled credits on Arise this evening with my Rez-inspired Loomii and I realized I'd been playing for over 90 minutes and hadn't noticed the passage of time.

That's one heck of a game!
Sitting here playing through Arise, I am reminded of one of my hotter gaming takes....

Lumines > Tetris.

There, I said it.

Sorry 🤷🏾

My policy is generally to say, "I am no longer supporting this creator but I will still enjoy what they made before now."

But there are exceptions. Remember when folks realized Bill Cosby inserted allusions to drugging women in an episode of the Cosby Show? It's permanently tainted at that point.
This is less a subtweet, and more of a thought I just want to get out there:

Bad people can make good art.

When a game that people liked turns out to have been made by someone shitty, it doesn't instantly become bad. You don't have to go full Sour Grapes on it. Two things can be true at once.

BTW, when I was talking about the future of game consoles a few weeks ago, one might recall I predicted this was on the horizon!

It's logical. Steam has built a strong dedicated device footprint with the Steam Deck and offering a console-like experience with a dedicated SteamOS box is the next step
Valve is making a console. The Steam Machine, a sleek box with the guts of a mid-range PC that runs SteamOS, will arrive in early 2026. Prices TBD, but unlike the failed Steam Machine initiative from a decade ago, this is Valve's own device. Big news www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

This may wind up being my replacement for my Windows 10 PC and Oculus Quest 2 setup at home in a year or two, so I'm paying attention!

(Hoping that Steam Machine has a decent, but not unaffordable, GPU!)

Fun fact: Q Entertainment approached Daft Punk about making a Lumines game, and they were interested, but it fell through because of their work on Tron: Legacy.

It was even going to feature NEW music made for the game itself!

Can you imagine how cool that would have been?

Correction: I just realized I have not played this version of Lumines, mainly because it was a java phone game and I never got into those!

The soundtrack is all house music, and it had minimal involvement from Q Entertainment, so it might be a mixed bag.

Because Lumines: Arise has arrived, featuring some of the best music in the entire series, I thought it'd be fun to do a thread of 10 of my favorite songs from the Lumines games that precede it!

I've played them all (even the mobile one) and love them, so here goes!

Momoko 120% is a fun platformer arcade game where you're a girl who escapes fiery buildings during different stages of her life. Who's setting all the fires? The game never says. My theory is it's her!

The Famicom version replaces her with Lum from Urusei Yatsura!

I barely buy games brand new, but you better believe i got Lumines Arise today.

It's VERY different from every other version of Lumines. Much more active and synesthetic. It lacks the zen qualities I love about the series, but it is definitely fun.

And the music and visuals... Wowow! Incredible!

I too am very curious if anyone who loves games uses Luna.

I've used it once, to get my son onto Fortnite using an underpowered PC. That's pretty much it!
Amazon's layoffs are bring changes to Luna & its gaming division, which we honestly forgot was even a thing

Do you use Luna at all? Why or why not?

Qix is a pretty perfect game on its own, which is one reason why the sequel, Volfied, might seem a bit unnecessary. (The other is that terrible name - what were they thinking?)

But Volfied does add some new tricks and manages to be a better game than you'd imagine!
