I want to talk about how junk science ruins innocent lives.

The criminal legal system is overwhelmed by junk science.

IT IS AN OUTRAGE.

If you're not deeply disturbed by what's going on, I need you to pay close attention.

Let me explain. 🧵/x

There has been at least one case of EMS accidentally transferring DNA to a crime scene. A man who was passed out drunk in hospital during a fatal robbery elsewhere spent 5 months in jail before being released. www.cbsnews.com/sanfrancisco...

DNA transferred by a paramedic may have led to an innocent man being jailed for months in a South Bay murder case, despite being hospitalized several miles away when the crime occurred.

People love to shit on Dems but House Dems, in the face of an authoritarian executive branch and deferential House Speaker have in the first year: forced two discharge petitions (Epstein and ACA), and might win a government shutdown. Not bad for the minority!
it really feels like the end is near for Mike Johnson's speakership after a critical mass of House Republicans this morning forced a vote on ACA subsidies over his resistance

I wasn't the first to say it or anything, and I'm glad lots and lots of people are starting to speak up at least, but man do people not care about this. People love art, but man oh man do they fucking hate artists.

Rich people have been trying to control art for all of history. Getting good at it.

Here comes the rain again
Raining in my head like a tragedy
Tearing me apart like a new emotion (Ooh)
I want to breathe in the open wind
I want to kiss like lovers do
Want to dive into your ocean
Is it raining with you?

So, baby, talk to me
Like lovers do
Walk with me
Like lovers do

Anyhow I highly encourage the piece, as well as this one from @youngvulgarian.marieleconte.com that Ian links to.

And Dorothy Thompson of course makes a fine addition to the trilogy. wacphila.org/uploads/atta...

I don’t entirely agree with the conclusions but I really enjoyed reading this and I’m sad I only saw it a week after it was published. Incredibly broad survey of a bunch of cultural trends, really impressive.

NEW — I spoke to DoorDash about the White House claiming the company's report shows "inflation has been tamed" and whether that's an interpretation one should make. An economist also weighed in, pointing out dictatorships use data obfuscation as a tool, and right now they're "grasping at straws."
WH claims 'inflation tamed,' per DoorDash stats. Company says that's not in its report.
It comes the same week we learned the WH would likely not release key economic reports for October.

Prioritize what the fans want and the rest will follow.
