It is incredible — the blind spots you develop when you’ve never, ever been poor.
Trump claims that food stamps "puts the country in jeopardy. People that are able-bodied can do a job, they leave their job because they figure they can pick this up, it's easier."

Yeah, I had a biopsy recently after a mammogram (negative, yay) and the initial "not a bill" charge was nearly $10K, $400 out of pocket after insurance. And this is an incredibly common scenario for women - if Paul had his way we wouldn't even be able to afford *not* getting sick.

If the person had no other job except being their own health care advocate, they could MAYBE handle it. But if you're struggling with multiple jobs or freelance gigs, there's not enough hours in a month.

so, today I got the surgery center where I got my deviated septum fixed to send me an itemized bill so I could submit to my FSA for reimbursement
my out of pocket cost: $473
what my insurance paid: $4258
what they tried to charge my insurance (not a misprint): $173692

I was at an event yesterday where Rand Paul spoke via video and talked about how great it was to send ACA money "directly to the people" so that they could work collectively to get better deals on health care.

Rep. John McGuire: "We need to rethink healthcare in America. It needs to be a preventative healthcare system, not a reactive, put-a-bandaid-on system that we have...you cannot exercise your way out of bad nutrition. Eat right, exercise right, lead a healthy lifestyle, & maybe have early screenings"

Before the ACA, I couldn't get insurance as a freelancer at all, bc I'm a type 1 diabetic, so "pre-existing conditions." It was absolute shit on my health, scavenging for insulin & test strips, constantly in life or death debates about being able to go to the doctor. I had no primary care.

He ran anyway, won with GOP support, dems let him keep his seniority, chairmanships and perks & he rewarded them by obstructing the ACA & killing the public option

An important question you cannot skip over in pursuit of the Primary Them All solution is: how likely is it that defeating entitled narcissists in a primary will actually stop them from running?

Spending Bill Would Pave Way for Senators to Sue Over Phone Searches
Republicans have voiced outrage that Jack Smith looked at G.O.P. lawmakers’ phone records surrounding the Jan. 6 attack. Legislation to reopen the government would allow them to sue for $500,000 each.
