agreeing to make a terrible deal while your main opponent is quite literally being boo'd on live tv by an entire stadium of people is the kind of political instinct you'd normally only find in a 3 week old dead goldfish

If you have a Dem senator and you're seeing this right now, CALL THEM RIGHT NOW and tell them NO. If you don't know anyone who would be affected by this, call them for my friend Lisa. She cannot afford insurance without ACA subsidies and without health insurance I'm terrified she will die.

Before the ACA, I couldn't get insurance as a freelancer at all, bc I'm a type 1 diabetic, so "pre-existing conditions." It was absolute shit on my health, scavenging for insulin & test strips, constantly in life or death debates about being able to go to the doctor. I had no primary care.

I know quite a few comrades on the ACA exchange. I used to be on the exchange for years. A doubling or tripling of premium costs will be a death sentence for people who NEED HEALTH INSURANCE to survive. PERIOD.

We've heard Democrats say as much for WEEKS. So what the hell??????

Dems backed Trump into a corner where he’s advocating for starving Americans and hemorrhaging support. If they vote to let him off the hook in exchange for nothing it’s a cataclysmic failure. I know people are in pain but insulating Republicans from political consequences is not the answer.

Alt text: a lusciously painted silken-textured white owl with fawn & grey dappled wings stands, eyes closed, atop a stone wall, a dead mouse by its feet and a two strands of ivy curling down on its left. The background is absolute black. The owl looks like an Elizabethan gentleman dreaming of love.
'Alone and warming his five wits, the white owl in the belfry sits.' Tennyson was a great fan of William Webbe who painted this exquisite picture in 1856. Though Webbe is included in Percy Bate's early study of the Pre Raphaelite movement, he remains a mysterious figure.

You know what's spooky? 12% of the population losing food access.

If you're in a state where your rep is holding food access hostage, bother the hell out of them and boo them VERY loudly.

I maintain that every one of these people should be forced to live on SNAP for a month.
Rep. Clay Higgins of Louisiana blames SNAP recipients for not stockpiling a month's worth of food.

He ends his tweet with "stop smoking crack."

Like other women poets of my generation, writing long works on themes the world reserves for philosophy as such, I am often called ambitious. The word “desperate” would probably be more accurate: I can't accept the Tyrant's truths...

Rough math: 12.3% of Americans (41.7 mil) are about to lose SNAP. Many food banks produce 3 meals per $1, so a November worth of meals for one costs $30. Round it up to $35 for asst. costs & hygiene products. If 13% of us donate $35 each to food banks, we can get everyone through Nov! #EndHunger 🥙💪

This! It's going to be so bleak in NC for people, and here's something to be done. (I currently live in NC) My soul is boiling. Thank you, @adapalmer.bsky.social for this good thing.

My ADHD brain is often awesome when hyperfocused, but for several days it's been clamped tight on an editing project, & as a result I have been unable to do anything but frantically edit, living on handfuls of trail mix. This sounds good, I know, but man, it's intense to have this kind of brain.

My badass sister in law Meghan is doing research about breast milk antibodies - and how to get them for every baby by isolating them so they can be added to formula too. www.king5.com/article/news...
New study shows breast milk could give newborns lifelong antibody protection: HealthLink
The research led by a Fred Hutch immunologist suggests even a few days of breastfeeding could have lasting benefits.

A 20th Century cocktail in a coupe, sandwiched between two halves of a golden crocodile bookend. 20th Century's are good - 1.5 oz gin, 1/2 oz Lillet blanc, 3/4 oz lemon juice, 1/2 oz white crème de cacao, shaken. Named after a train.
