…and the town, it's not even a town, really, it's just like this camp where all these people have gathered to hide… all these people that are hiding in the woods and trying to stay alive. This is where they all came.

The problem with the last bit is it flattens the military. No, no one should expect E3 Snuffy to have a clue what's legal in regard to kidnapping a head of state or blowing up fishing boats that may or may not have at one point been used for drug running. That's what senior leadership is for.
The dynamic I’m seeing that’s kind of frustrating here is:

DoD Bluesky: “it’s a safeguard that US troops have a right to refuse an unlawful order. Don’t worry.”

DoD: *receives and follows an unlawful order*

US public: “wtf”

DoD Bluesky: “bro trust me you don’t want them to decide what unlawful”
Kinda interesting how on the conventional side the civ-mil framing is "follow your oath to the constitution" but on the nuke side the framing is "no one can refuse a lawful order"

Bad-faith actors have used a well-worn playbook to undermine public health interventions and institutions to advance their commercial, political, and personal interests. We need to be careful not to conflate "meeting people where they are" with ceding scientific ground to these actors and agendas.

They're using the confinement box, one of the most horrific methods of CIA torture in the post-9/11 black sites, against migrants now. This is the direct result of the lack of consequences for the architects of the torture program. Either there will be criminal penalties for this or it will expand.
Torture Techniques from CIA Black Sites Were Used at Alligator Alcatraz
Amnesty International, interviewing migrant detainees, identifies use of the confinement box. There can be no denying it is a torture prison

The real task isn’t “teaching people to spot misinformation.” It’s rebuilding conditions where verification, deliberation and accountability are possible. Critical thinking only works when the world around it gives those skills a place to take root.
