The org @maskblocla.bsky.social had distributed over 40,000 N95 respirators by the time the city of LA got around to offering free masks to the public. While anti-COVID groups jumped into action as fires spread, local government trailed behind:

Anti-COVID groups distribute masks and air purifiers faster than LA government amidst fires
Groups that popped up to respond to the government's abandonment since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic are distributing resources across the city

Why are hospitals encouraging sick people to stay away instead of doing basic infection control like requiring masks?

One week ago, a court in California ruled that employers cannot be sued for spreading COVID to their workers due to lack of protections.

This week, In-N-Out banned their employees from wearing masks.

This is horrible.

Japan seems to be headed for yet another wave, which is already serious in Okinawa. It is tempting to think that countries that focused on controlling the virus early on are now paying the price, but the price of letting it rip pre-vaccines was vastly higher.

Just attended a city hearing on wildfire smoke.

Excuses they gave:
"We had no warning"
"It's up to individuals"
"Only the vulnerable should be concerned"
"There's no long term health effects"

They are minimizing #climatechange the same way they minimized #COVID.
