The DOD doesn’t have a problem with lethality, by the way. We’re a go at that station. We are very, very good at killing people in all sorts of imaginative ways.

Absolutely. There was a time when you could graduate high school and essentially walk into a factory and be guaranteed a wage good enough to support a family and a pension after 20 years. That this isn’t the case anymore really is a big deal.
(Also, most of that greatness was due to unions.)

Just before I started first grade, I moved to a GM foundry town where the GM plant was in the process of closing. Sure, folks who worked there got new jobs (eventually). But these were folks who graduated high school and were able to immediately start a job where they made a family wage —>

So we have had an adventure!
The cats arrived by air and the not-a-teenager and I went to pick them up.
There we discovered that the carrier size insisted on by the airplane is significantly larger than the ones we normally used to transport the cats. Only two would fit in the backseat.
