Really good story on how Tesla took nearly a billion dollars in New York public funding with the promise of new jobs. Then -- surprise! -- most of the jobs never materialized.

A colleague at Stanford’s business school used The Stanford Daily to argue—poorly—against DEI. The piece was riddled with historical errors and left one searching for fact, so I broke my public writing hiatus to respond.

I hope you’ll read and share the piece.

What DEI threatens isn’t merit. It’s monopoly.
Political science professor Hakeem Jefferson argues for DEI's importance to de-monopolizing universities.

One thing about today's tariff shitshow is that congress could undo all this nonsense tonight and the damage would still be huge, because these actions have decisively signaled that the US is an unreliable international trading partner—and this impacts political and economic strategy worldwide.

It's notable that non of the "Biden is old" stuff has not focused on his policy choices or implementation. He has run a government free of major scandals, has been a savvy negotiator with two very different Congresses, and has used executive power well. He knows how to govern at the highest level.
I'll be real: I don't give a shit if the president spends 4 years in a coma. All that matters to me is policy. Same goes for personal character stuff. I'll always vote for the viable candidate with policy views closer to mine.

Unlike Susan Collins, I didn’t have to Google Mike Johnson.

Why? Because I report on the Christian right, I first encountered him in 2007, when he was an attorney for ADF:

The denial of the medical complicatedness of pregnancy is of a piece with the notion that pregnancy is a physically passive experience for the pregnant woman, something akin to charging your phone—and not the exhausting and taxing process that it is.
one crucial development in the ideology of anti-abortion politics is the widespread belief that pregnancy runs essentially on autopilot and no serious medical attention is ever required. allows anti-abortion zealots to ignore the fact that their policies produce maternity care deserts

As Twitter spirals, there’s an effort to help get chronically ill folks moved. If you have spare codes, consider adding them to the form below.

It’s really hard for people with certain illnesses to deal with the logistics of moving. This form helps make it a little easier.

Please fill out this form if you're the chronic illness community and you'd like to either (1) donate invite codes or (2) request an invite.

Everything is a scam, or on its way to becoming a scam.

Nothing works and it’s all by design, because every hitch in the process is another way for the rich to make more money.
