Add this case study from the Institute for Responsive Government to your weekend reading list!

It's a great example of what's possible when governments tackle service transformation the right way.

If you want to gut state capacity (/ht @pahlkadot.bsky.social ) this would be an effective place to do heavy damage…
18F was doing exactly the type of work that DOGE claims to want – yet we were eliminated shortly after midnight. Read our letter to the American people:

I learned so much from the gang at 18F when we were starting up CDS. Our earliest days I spent spelunking through their open repositories looking for things we could borrow or learn from. They were what we aspired to become, our civic tech lodestar. What a loss.
I got laid off today, with the rest of 18F.

18F was an elite federal software shop. We made gov't websites work better, more efficiently for the American people. We saved taxpayers from getting screwed over by contractors. And were fired for it.

We made this website to tell our story:

One of the biggest barriers to digital service transformation is budget separation.

It’s a cost item on a digital budget.

Which later results in savings in the service operation budget.

That’s a different team, unit or even organisation.

This is a very very good article and I hope whatever remnant stump of #GCDigital exists on this platform reads it. I would suggest that splitting program review (what should we do) with admin service review (how should we do it) would lead to faster results and clearer public conversations. 🧵

Now feels like a good time to remind folks about @davegray.bsky.social ‘s pyramid of beliefs… how can we move people we know to a liminal space for deeper conversations and de-polerization? For me, this model is helpful framing youtu.be/2G_h4mnAMJg?...

Amid all of Trump's political dick-swinging, there's one question on many Haligonians’ minds: How will we survive a trade war when our two biggest grocers have a history of being dicks as well?

We've put together a map of local, independent grocers across the HRM.

Now feels like a good time to remind folks that #NovaScotia farmers continue to be some of the most critical local businesses to support. Trade wars aside, climate change is also poised to disrupt food systems and we’re gonna rely on people close to home for food. Gotta support them so we have them!
