My partner and a couple of our friends like to get together for what they call Difficult Film Club and I think the most Gender thing I do as the one woman around when they come over is go get food for them lol

Two things can be true: informal systems of retributive justice or corporal/capital punishment would be *vastly* worse than today's system, AND we should not let a failure of imagination or hope extinguish the idea that prisons aren't an inevitable feature of human society.

I consider myself a prison abolitionist despite the very real and material challenges of that position. It's not a practical one day-to-day policy slate, but an anchor on a longer-term project not possible in the current context, contingent on social changes that are wildly unlikely in my lifetime.
I‘m tired of being nice about this; “abolitionism” has had years to develop a non-idiot policy program and the best they’ve come up with is ”murder without even the pretense of juridical process.” And I am not nut-picking; this is all over abolitionist writing.

This is your reminder that we can have accountability without punishment. We can actually change the situations that let powerful men use their power to dominate. We can have compassion and healing rather than meet violence with violence. We can affirm divine judgment without hell. We can, we must.⚓️

I affirm this and I am so tired of being told I am insufficient as a progressive or feminist or whatever because I don’t pant for the blood of those who do wrong. I want a just and holy world and no amount of violence buys that.

Look, I'm not saying getting the approval of older goths was a major reason why I started buying T-shirts at every show I went to, but I'm not *not* saying it either.

I live in a time when "a cabal of pedophiles runs the country" and "the national media have been engaging in a multi a year long conspiracy to end democracy" are factual statements and I want a refund
About the same time the NYT sat on a scoop tying Trump to Epstein, Maggie Haberman was downright giddy (y'all) about NYT promoting an anti-Hillary Clinton book.

As of this morning, Starbucks workers across the country are officially ON STRIKE. And we're prepared for this to become the biggest and longest ULP strike in Starbucks history.

Say #NoContractNoCoffee with us: DON'T BUY STARBUCKS for the duration of our open-ended ULP strike! $SBUX

RE starbucks picket line--the relevant detail is "picket line, do not cross." Pass that along. Proclaiming that you are in no danger of doing so because you are too aesthetically pure to let Starbucks coffee pass your lips is...unhelpful and does not give the impression you perhaps imagine it does.

Friendly reminder that dishwashers made after 1995 or so are so water and energy efficient that even if you ran them twice fully loaded it would still use less water than handwashing the same load.

So many "green" things feel like sacrifices. Dishwashers are not one of them.

if you voted in Seattle you gotta make sure your ballot counted now
There are 1,700 ballots that need signature confirmation. That is enough to change the election.

Go. Check. Your. Ballot.

It's never been lost on me that the most public faces of Calvinism in the US are conservative straight white men.
I'm not sure Jean quite understood that if you took the laziest interpretation of his teaching you essentially created a movement of sociopaths

why is it ageist to want extremely powerful people who have had power for decades to retire, but it isnt ageist for both parties to be fighting like hell to prevent millenials and zoomers from having any access to any power in politics at all?

Genuinely why do some people see any positive mention of church, including from a marginalized person, and decide that this is how they simply must respond?

This thought brought to you by the ordination of a beloved queer friend of mine today, attended by many other queer people, and at which I sang in a quartet of queer folks for the offertory ❤️

I think people don't understand that while The Church on social, global scale is rich and powerful, individual congratulations very often are not. There is literally no way to provide direct aid to anyone who asks.

It's actually good for churches not to have loose money floating around that nobody is directly accountable for where it goes.

My little church, permanently financially-strapped doesn't have cash. We work with and donate to a bunch of nonreligious community organizations, but there is literally no way to access cash and give it to someone.

I watched a few of these and i’m sorry, but this is stupid. the lady making these calls is not a good liar and the churches she’s talking to reasonably conclude that someone is trying to scam them. i’m not exactly the most vociferous defender of the american church but this is a dumb social stunt.
