Hi! I am a Missourian. My greatest hits include “Queer and BIPOC folks live in rural America” “stop trading solidarity for ideological purity” “love your neighbor, yeah that jackass” and “beauty is everywhere, just like pain.”
Ash Wednesday begins my favorite church season. Lent feels holy in a way that only grace feels holy. That sinners in love with God feels holy. That God’s constant bursting through in the darkness feels holy. That forgiveness deeply earned, and loss deeply grieved feels holy. ⚓️

I revisited this piece I wrote two years ago. It’s gun violence and God and life and loss and dust. I might write a new one today.

Preached today a throwback to Epiphany 4 gospel in addition to E5, because our priest didn’t get to dig in last week thanks to our annual meeting. I preached some stuff that was hard. The Beatitudes today on hard mode. ⚓️

I am PROFOUNDLY FRUSTRATED. I just got paid feedback on my query letter that was basically "you did it wrong, you need to rewrite it and make it better somehow!" Yet it was very clear I have been doing it ALL WRONG. I have queried over 60 agents. I am failing at a GAME. And I am crying now, so.

1. So, an interesting thing about Minneapolis' response to DHS is that it showcases how pushback to Trump's mass deportation efforts developed and expanded over time — and how it involved religious leaders throughout.

Let me explain…

So there is a whole-ass occupation in America, martyrs in our streets, and I work every day with children who suffer mental illness and family discord. People I love are hurting and afraid. And I have the cast iron audacity to get in Narthex here and ask for your prayers for my cat going to the vet⚓️

If you’re angry or hurt about the state of the world or the USA, great. Anger makes sense. However, how we direct that anger matters. Permitting anger to devolve into hatred might feel great, but don’t. Hatred makes us stupid, cruel, and easy to control. It forecloses us from wise solutions. ⚓️
