#BirdOfTheDay: let's go with #Sparrows

There's the relatively shy Savannah Sparrow, the extremely shy Lincoln's Sparrow (inexplicably showing up in downtown Vancouver) and, quite rare on the West Coast, an American Tree Sparrow

I think it’s time to put this one back out into the ether, friends

Come and learn about how the tropes undergirding anti-Jewish hatred and conspiracy theories as they exist today came to be…
The Antisemitism Post (tm)
Gotta get the history to know where the tropes live in the discourse today.

#BirdOfTheDay: #warblers

Here's a Blackpoll Warbler, immature or nonbreeding female. And far out of its normal range: it should have benn on its way to the Caribbean but somehow found itself in the trees right outside my window!

FOLKS: I'M INSANELY FAR BEHIND ON THE NOVEMBER FUNDRAISER AND TIME IS RUNNING OUT RAPIDLY, SO IF YOU *CAN* MISS ANY AMOUNT: PAYPAL IN BIO. HELP.
I am acutely aware of the effects of the GOP starvation campaign and I want to make it crystal clear that if you are in any financial dire straits I want you to always prioritize yourself, your loved ones and your community!

Only give if you can miss it without any worries!

It’s widely known (and, I think, pretty uncontroversial) that learning requires effort — specifically, if you don’t have to work at getting the knowledge, it won’t stick.

Even if an LLM could be trusted to give you correct information 100% of the time, it would be an inferior method of learning it.
Relying on ChatGPT to teach you about a topic leaves you with shallower knowledge than Googling and reading about it, according to new research that compared what more than 10,000 people knew after using one method or the other.
