#PlumeScrolling Daggerstrike Murderbeak, a Grey Heron I photographed at Forest Farm, Cardiff, back in May. So glad I decided to prioritise #NaturePhotography earlier this year, before my thyroid condition began to limit what I could do! #Birds 🦉 🌿
In this photo, almost all of the Grey Heron can be seen standing in some long grass, with buttercups and other wildflowers - the vegetation is covering most of the bird's long legs however. As the bird's name suggests, the plumage is mainly various shades of grey, but the top of the head is black, they eye is yellow with a black pupil and black rim, and the long, powerful beak is blackish above and an orangey-yellow below.

No. 7 in our Top 10 highlights of wildlife seen on our 2025 tours were several sightings of 'Northern' Long-tailed Tits in Autumn. Watching these flying lollipops was a privilege and we are not sure there is a word that can justify their beauty!

Three North Atlantic Puffins standing in a patch of Mayweed (a low-growing plant with green, frond-like leaves and white-petalled flowers with yellow centres), Two of the birds (the one closest to us ans one on the left) are facing towards the left, the third, behind them, is looking away from us. All three have had Santa hats (red, with white fluffy trim) superimposed on their heads. The birds each have black wings, tails, and backs, with the black plumage extending around the neck and across the top of the head; the sides of the head are white as is the chest and belly. The legs, and webbed feet, are orange, and the beaks, almost triangular in shape when viewed from the side, are red and blue, with thin yellow lines.
