Shape and Size: The long-tailed tit has a very distinctive shape, often described as a "flying lollipop" or a "feathered teaspoon". It has a tiny, fluffy, round body and a disproportionately long, narrow tail that is actually longer than the body itself. Scale: The total length is about 14 cm (5.5 inches), but the body part is very small, and the tail makes up most of that length. The entire bird weighs less than a UK £1 coin, so it's incredibly light and delicate. Texture: The feathers are very soft and fluffy, giving it a plump, ball-shaped appearance, especially in winter when it fluffs up for insulation. Colour (High Contrast): Its plumage is a striking mix of high-contrast colours: primarily black and white, with hints of soft pink or rosy hues on its back and belly. It has a white head with a wide black stripe running above each eye.

A UK kingfisher is a small, stocky bird, similar in size to a house sparrow or robin, but with a large head and a long, dagger-like beak. It is often described in terms of its sound and movement, as its bright colouration, while striking, can be hard to spot in the dappled light by the water. The difference between the Male & Female Kingfisher is on the beak with the male having an all-black beak but the female has an orange streak on the lower bill. Size and Shape: It is a compact bird, about 16-17 cm (around 6-7 inches) in length. If a physical model were available, it would feel small and robust, with a disproportionately large head and a long, pointed bill designed for fishing. Its tail is very short, and its legs are small with orange or reddish feet. Colouration (High Contrast/Vibrancy): The bird has a high-contrast pattern. Its back and tail are a bright, electric or metallic blue, while its underparts (chest and belly) are a rich, rusty orange or copper. It has a white patch on its throat and a white spot on the side of its neck. Flight: Its flight is rapid, direct, and low over the water's surface, a "flash of metallic blue" that is over in a blink. The Northern Gannet is a large, heavy-bodied seabird, roughly the size of a goose or even a small albatross. Length: From tip of the beak to the end of its tail, it can be about a metre long, so holding your arms out wide you can get an idea of its body length. Wingspan: When its wings are spread, they span an impressive 1.8 to 1.9 metres (about 6 feet). Body shape: It has a sleek, sharp appearance, with a long, pointed tail and long, slender, pointed wings, which help it cut through the air and water efficiently. If you could touch a model or the bird itself (in a controlled environment): Feathers: The plumage is mostly very smooth and dense to be waterproof and streamlined for diving. Beak: It has a heavy, strong, and very sharp bill, light bluish-grey in colour, which it uses like a spear to catch fish. Head: Its head has an almost triangular, wedge-like shape, tapering into that sharp bill. The neck is long and thick. Special adaptations: Underneath the skin on its face and chest, there is a layer of spongy, bubble-wrap-like air sacs that cushion the impact when it dives into the sea.

The waxwing is a plump, a little larger than a starling-sized bird with very soft, silky feathers and a distinctive, prominent crest that lays flat and droops over the back of its head. To imagine its texture, think of a very smooth, fine, and dense silk to the touch
