We're all guilty of posting uselessly on microblogging sites about important topics--it's encouraged, and we all give in, we all want to be heard--but it's another matter to go on a binge of attacking people for not posting the same things you do at the same time.

The reason I get annoyed with people who scold and shame people for not posting about Y Very Serious Topic is because, most of the time, their posts on Y Topic are ineffectual "awareness raising" at best and self-harm at worst.

It doesn't save anyone, it just makes content for the platform.
More like Manufacturing *Content*, amirite folks?

Bluesky is officially “open” now (no more invites). So just a reminder to not engage with trolls and bad actors, there is no algorithm here to promote or spread them, replying to them is what puts them on everybody’s timelines. So block and give no oxygen.

I’m fine with directors getting “a film by” credit, as long as writers get a “by” credit of their own. You know, like we used to do it in the old days.

at this point frankly I don't think there's any scale of mass death - certainly elsewhere in the world, and likely at home too - that US society won’t metabolize into business as usual

Today the Irish Examiner published my piece about the hellscape of platform manipulation and spam that is the modern web. In it, I highlighted that such actions materially benefit Twitter.

Now, for the first time in 14 years, I've been suspended by Twitter. For "platform manipulation and spam".

If this was the single sole atrocity of its kind I would never forgive the people responsible not anyone who tried to handwave it away as a minor detail. Instead, there have been thousands of Hinds. Fuck anyone who thinks they can be forgotten.
Israel attacked the Red Crescent ambulance even after they'd cleared them to rescue Hind. The paramedics were killed. Hind is dead as well, and if you listened to the tapes you know she died terrified and alone sounded by the bodies of dead family.

i read the teachers reddit occasionally and it's really dire out there. kids have been universally failed by every institution and government that were supposed to protect them and now they're arriving to every new grade level with none of the skills they should already have
Everyone who teaches undergrads has seen this, and a lot of us have been convincing ourselves it's just us, or it's just in our department, or just at our school, when it's everywhere and widespread. No single individual--no matter how smart, resourceful, or caring--can teach their way out of this.
College Students Don’t Know How to Read Anymore. We’re in Denial Over How Bad It’s Gotten.
These kids aren’t lazy. We’re failing them.

i saw a post by a teacher that i haven't been able to get out of my head for months. she said that kids are terrified of being "wrong" in a way she's never seen before. they won't even answer "what is your favorite food" or whatever without prompting because they think there is a wrong answer

I think the historical context on this is really important to understand and promote because the reality is that there's no inherent aversion to trans people in our culture, it's one that's been cultivated by explicit right wing propaganda as another way to divide the working class against itself
This wasn't unheard of at the time, the first public trans surgery in America was done as "Former GI now smoking hot!"

nyc ancient history walking tour like “that used to be a whale-oil warehouse, that used to be Cornelius Vanderbilt’s horse stables, and that used to be a widely read and financially solvent print publication with multiple full-time employees”
just overheard a teen point at a storefront and say to her friend “I heard that in the 20th century that used to be a video rental store” in the way someone might point out a place that used to be a sewing machine factory or a vaudeville theater, I will now crumble into dust and return to the earth
